    Personally

I have a M14. Everyone told me how bad it is the metal in the bolt is soft bla bla bla. ive had absolutely no problems with it, it shoots dead on accurate with the so called "cheap made" iron sights. The ONLY problem I had was with a crappy made mag that I had to tweak the lips on to make it work.
Would I of wanted to buy a M1. yeah I would but i found out that SA makes their stuff overseas and that the Norinco receiver on my 14 was actually better made and the barrel is chrome lined ( read up on it last night)
I think a lot of the so called " this gun is not good" opinions come from people who
    1. Never owned that particular gun someone is asking about
    2. Heard or read from someone who had a bad experience with one and are simply repeating
    3. Are so against imports that no matter what it is its gonna be a POS
    4. have HAD a bad experience so now any gun that is the brand or country make is automatically bad ( this group is probably the smallest of all opinions)

Some people like the brand names, and thats all they buy. Thats why Sig HK Glock XD beretta etc are popular guns to buy. because they have a following of fans.

Would I buy a Norinco hawk shotgun. Yeah. if that was all i could afford then yeah I would buy it. I know some of you guys say for a little bit more money you can have XYZ shotgun. That's really great but not everyone has that little bit more money to spend. Some people really are on a budget.

if I had the money to buy something "better" I would get a mossberg. The reason i would get a mossberg is because i already own one that i bought 16 years ago. I shot it numerous times and it has very little wear and I recently took it apart to clean it and there was no rust or wear on parts. Lubed everything back up and its been nothing but a very reliable gun throughout the years.

if the Chinese hawk is all you can afford then get that.
Look at it this way they are probably selling a few million of these shotguns. No matter what theyre are bound to be a few duds. Im sure ALL gun makers have a few duds in the line. I dont care who they are.

They are both on sale at: http://www.turners.com/engage/events_fathersday.html

The problems with copies is just that ... They are COPIES !!! If you could afford the real Made in America guns then why go imports ....

If price is a big concern then the Maverick at $209 should be a good fit. Everyone likes the Mossberg 500, the Mav is just a basic Made in America Mossberg.

        Yet again...

If you put yourself out there as an "expert" I think you owe it to our community to be open and honest. These aren't mere toys, they are tools that may be called upon to defend the lives of families and friends.

You come here and denigrate the Norinco based on what? It's "cheap"? Since when is price alone an indicator of quality and suitability to do the job? May because of lower manufacturing and marketing costs they can afford to sell these at a substantial discount compared to the Remingtons - that's not cheap, that a good value.

But wait - it's only an import. Well yeah, probably over 60% of new firearms are imports. And let's not forget that some do9mextic models are far from perfect.

I've checked out your site, and you seem to take your profession seriously and do good work, so frankly your attitude is puzzling. As a pro I'd think you'd want to gather as much intel as possible on you market, in this case I would expect that you'd have obtained an Hawk and put it through its paces, but it seems like you haven't gone that.

Until you take that step all your posts on the matter are suspect and worthless at best and disingenuous at worst.

What if after a close examination you find the Hawk be mechanically superior? Don't you owe it to your clientele to have that info available? Right now you say outright that the Hawk is inferior, but the truth is you don't have a clue.

This repetition is annoying and frustrating, I respect your INFORMED opinion and really wish you had one regarding the Hawk. In fact, I'd be willing to pay to see your hands-on review, I imagine others would also be interested in a head to head comparo. To that end I'll kick in $10 to a fund that will raise $200 so we can get one of these into your shop for you to evaluate. Are there 19 others of you who would like to fund the education of our 870 expert and our community's SG knowledge base?

The only argument I would have against a portion of what you said is
Usually cheap quality and suitability and value ( or combo of those words ) don't go together a lot of times. I really think some people automatically dismiss it as a cheap chinese knockoff. There are cases where cheap is just that cheap. I learned my lesson with a few things like tools. Now there are guns I flat out refuse to purchase. ( the saturday night specials, rusted guns, stuff like that)

As for the evaluation the only way you are gonna get a realistic opinion on which is better is to send it to a 3rd party that is impartial.

I've fired both enough, and have read enough owner reviews, to have formed an honest and I believe valid opinion about the two shotguns. Another opinion isn't my concern. My interest is ending the uninformed fiction which is frequently expressed by a gunsmith who is an expert on the 870. Some people may assume that since the expert is knowledgeable on the Remington that his opinions about the Norinco are likewise valid. Another 3rd party is unlikely to change that scenario.

It seems to me the fair way to settle this matter is for the expert to man up and actually evaluate the Norinco. Until then he should exhibit a modicum of professional integrity and either not comment on something he doesn't know, or state "The following is not based on objective knowledge but is my ignorant, uninformed, and clearly biased opinion."

I own both the 870 express and Interstate clone. So far, both have performed perfect. I am working on a J.C. Higgins model 583.23 bolt action 12 gauge. This was not included in the Sears recall. I refinished the walnut stock, blued the metal, cleaned it up but the recoil pad is dried and cracked. I thought the pad on the Interstate might fit. It didn't. I had already put a knox stock on the Express so I decided to put the Express stock on the Interstate.
It fit perfectly but..... The Interstate stock is heavier, thicker and feels much better than the Express stock. The gun felt a lot lighter with the Express, thin walled stock. I didn't like it so I switched back and put the Express stock away for a just in case project. I took pictures with my cell phone but I can't seem to receive it on my computer, I promise pics soon. I am not saying the Interstate furniture is better or worse than the Express, but for me, I'll keep the Interstate stock on the Interstate gun.
I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

Where to buy IAC Hawk in Bay Area

                Hi Everyone,

I'm new to the forum and will be purchasing a new shotgun soon. Can anyone tell me where I can buy an IAC Hawk shotgun in the Bay Area (East Bay preferably). I'd like to compare it to a Mossberg 500.

I recently say a Mossberg 500 at Big 5 on sale for $399.00. It has the pistol grip and adjustable stock. I think it's the tactical version. Will that be a better buy vs an IAC Hawk 982 with a similar set but with Ghost Ring sights?

                Thanks everyone.

Big5 is the palce. If they don't have one locally ask for them to find one and have it transferred. Should the local store balk, call their corp offices, talk to the firearm dept., and they should help locate one.

It feels far sturdier than the Moss 500, but that solid heft comes with a weight penalty.

Some people have called Big 5 customer service and they found a 982 for them and shipped it for free to their local Big 5, they even honored the last sale price if you asked (IIRC it was $199.99).

You might even get them to honor the last coupon by telling them you couldn't find any 982's (coupon price is better than sale price).

                        Good luck.

I'm planning on getting an adjustable stock for my 982. Does the recoil reducing adjustable stocks make that much of a difference?

I'm looking into the Knoxx Spec Opps, Shotforce, Tapco.
