If your budget is in the low 2's then go with the Maverick 88 at $209. They are the basic version of the trusted Mossberg 500.
The real Remington 870 Express Tactical is $349, and you can have the real thing.
They are both on sale at: http://www.turners.com/engage/events_fathersday.html
The problems with copies is just that ... They are COPIES !!! If you could afford the real Made in America guns then why go imports ....Wanna learn to shoot SKEET? I am here to introduce all shooters to the sport of SKEET Shooting ....

Do a search for IAC Hawk 982 (its official name) on this site and on Google.i have heard that this gun is just like a Remington 870 and will receive the same stocks and such, any ideas, input,or other statements on this gun??

You will find out that it is the lowest cost, most reliable, toughest, best value with the most features, entry level, IMPORTED, pump action SG currently for sale. There are better SG's, but none that have similar features and cost.
If you are on a very limited budget and can still afford more than a single shot SG, then it is a fine SG.
You must take the other fixed costs into consideration when buying a SG on a budget: taxes, DROS fee, shipping, gun lock, SG case, cleaning supplies, ammo, sling, eyes & ears, ammo carriers, flash lights & mounts, range time, training classes.Comment

Its a great shotgun, The ghost ring sights from the factory are excellent. I duracoated mine Magpul OD green and installed the Hogue Overmold stock and forend. This shotgun is by far the best bang for buck, it's very well built. I believe the quality is better then a 870 express and on par with the 870P. I have a Mossberg 500 as well and I love that gun too, Both are great affordable shotguns.Comment

The IAC Hawk 982 really is a great shotgun and a terrific bargain.
Like Mug said, the cost of the SG itself is just the beginning and not everyone has a ton of money to spend on guns and gun stuff.
You can also make an argument that a "real" combat shotgun has something better than just a bead sight. A stock Mossberg or Rem with GRS is going to cost over twice as much as the 982.
The 982 is a real tool that you don't need to baby and worry about. It is indeed a great "knock around" gun. You don't have to do a lot of mods to it either since it does its job extremely well right out of the box.
One performance mod that is recommended though is something that has been mentioned before on other threads: the rear sight elevation set screw tends to loosen after much firing and the rear sight may slide off eventually. It's easily fixed by replacing the slotted set screw with a M4 x 5mm socket set screw (under 50 cents at Ace Hardware and tightened with a 2mm hex key) and using blue loctite to secure the screw.
With the money you save on a 982 you can buy more ammo and range time and make the best mod of all: become a better shooter through practice and training.Comment

Please do not accept a non validated state such as the IAC import is on par with the quality of the 870 police. You asked a fair question and to then get a response like that is not fair to you. It is not true and I say right now that anyone who believes that has little to know knowledge of these weapons.
There is a old saying that has been around for many years and is as true today as ever. "You get what you pay for". It may be a good entry level weapon for a new buyer, however for a few more bucks you can get a 500 or 870. Both proven weapons that will be in service to you long after these cheap imports are past their life expectancy. I learned as a young man that if the deal seems to good to be true, it ain't. So to think you are getting a weapon as good as the 870P for $185.00 is on face value of the statement alone, not to be believed. And, it is just not true.
when I started building tactical shotguns and set up my shop, I tried to save money on most of the tools I bought. Store brand screw drivers from Low's or Home depot and other stuff, Low's compressor. Most all those tools have now been replaced with quality tools and I am on the second compressor pump. If I would have simply bought quality tools and a quality compressor I would have spent less as they would have lasted. So, I failed to take the same advise I am giving you and I have paid for it, and have more to pay as some of that other junk is wearing out and has to be replaced. Go to any mechcanic and you will be told the same thing. Buy Quality and you buy once, buy cheap and keep buying.

Appi, of course you are going to be very bias towards the 982 but you can not say it isn't an excellent shotgun for the money. Maybe I was a little overzealous with my statement about it being on par with the 870P but never the less it's a top notch shotgun. The statement you get what you pay for isn't always true, I paid 40k for my Tundra which turned out to be a big pile of crap. Quality isn't always influenced by price.Comment

Not to get in a pissing war - and you may absolutely be right - but have you actually spent time comparing the 870P with the 982 in your shop and on the range? Seems like you've been around but maybe you haven't actually spent time with a 982.
It seems like you are perhaps just making generalizations about "cheap" products versus more expensive ones without any real-world empirical evidence with the two mentioned shotguns. After all, the largest army on the planet - 3 million strong - use Norinco firearms, the same guys who make the 982.
Anybody can say anything about anything but unless it's backed up with actual facts it's just talk. And there sure is a lot of talk on the "interwebs."
We're gadget freaks for the most part around here and love to hear about actual results and performance. If you've got the data, let's hear about it. Sharing is caring, ha!
Generalizations are just that, general and not specific.Comment

there is a whole thread on this shotgun on this site. I got it a while ago and had no problems with it. http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=164110

Got a 1 point sling mount on too

Guys said the same things about the Norico M1A1 or M-14 whatever they called it. Just as good as my Springfield M1A1? Good heavens man.........This debate is beat to death and the guys that even think these cheap weapons are the same are not going to be convinced. The debate is wether a cheap import is in the same class of our Winchester, Ithicas, Mossbergs and Remingtons. All American gun manufacturers adhere to an Industry standard for every thing from steel hardness to tolerences. Are SAMI standard being followed. Who would even enforce that over there. Are the Chinesse adhering to these standards? They don't on toys and other things they make.
Never said it was a bad weapon, I said it is a cheap knock off import. I also said it may be a good entry level weapon for a new buyer. The advice to the OP was spend the few dollars extra on a Mossberg or Remington. He can take if he wants to.
As for your Tundra, my '97 Ford Pick up is still trucking and an employee of mine put 240,000+ on his Dakota. So that may be another debate.JD McGuire, Owner

The IAC Hawk IS a low cost shotgun, but it IS NOT cheaply made. It is built like a tank and the best value entry level SG. It is China's version of the 870P and is issued to police/military. And, it will accept almost all 870 parts with little or no modification except barrels (possible with a spacer but it's not very elegant).the Chinesse adhering to these standards? They don't on toys and other things they make.

A comparable Mossberg (which is the brand I recommend over all others) or Remington is going to cost 2-3X more.
Most of us who own a 982 have spent far more money on US made ammo and accessories than the cost of the SG, so buy American when you can afford it and buy what you need when you can't.
Remington imports SGs from China, Mossberg builds SG barrels in Mexico, Ford, Cadillac & Chevy build cars in Mexico. I tried to buy an "American" car, it turned out to owned by the German's and built in Canada with parts from all over the world (the engine was built in Michigan).
Buy the best tool for the job you can afford, but never be without a tool when you need it.Comment

i bought the sg 3 months ago while on sale for199 at big5 plus the bloodydecks coupon
i just want a tactical 4-6 point stock so the wife can shoot it.
i took it to the desert and put 200 rounds threw it with out and problems and hit clay consistentlyComment

The only problem I had with the tactical stock is it pinches my cheek using my ear protection when shooting, very painful. In ear plugs no problem. Ive never shot it stock.sigpicComment

Mesa Tactical M4 Stock
If you are looking for an adjustable LOP stock for the 982, you cannot beat the Mesa Tactical LEO stock kit. It's pricey, almost as much at the gun itself, but will fill the bill and match the durability of the weapon itself.

With Limbsaver recoil pad.
