    Storing a Loaded Shotgun?

Hello all, I am new to the world of shotguns, and was wondering if what someone recently wrote on Facebook was true or not.

They wrote that "it is bad to keep a shotgun's magazine tube loaded because the shells get all smooshed and when you go to chamber them they wont fit because they expand under the pressure of the spring"

    is any of this true?

    That’s a bunch of FUD.

Those springs would have to be much stronger to change the shells.
    Sorry, not sorry.

LOL. Never heard of that. Since shotgun shells comprise of a hull, primer, powder, wad and shot, how can it expand when they're crimped? While I unload one of my shotguns every morning before I leave the house, I have never noticed any of the shells I used having any type of deformity. And the shells I have now are more than 10 years old.

Only time I've ever heard of shotgun shells (plastic hull and paper hull) deforming because they were kept loaded for a long period of time, is when they were loaded in fully loaded detachable magazines.

Something to do with the feed lips deforming the first shell over time.

Could be case of persistent FUD about detachable shotgun box magazines.

First time I heard about this, was with use of USAS-12 magazines.
Then over time, it carried over to Saiga-12 magazines.
There was also something about this being one of the reasons why the H&K CAWS used full brass cased shotgun shells.

BS. That is not true OP. No deformation to worry about in a standard shotgun

I've been using shotguns for about sixty-five years now (pushin' 74) and I've never heard that one???
I know a guy that kept a HD shotgun.................lock and loaded for twenty some years. Same ammo in it all that time,(shotgun just stay in the bedroom closet.........just in case and never fired?
He ask me if the ammo and mag spring were still good? I told him to go shoot the damn shotgun and see if it work?

            *It work just fine!

Never use facebook or believe what you read. Complete FUD. Ask on here or a gun forum not on a yuplet forum.

you can keep a gun loaded and stored but keep in mind in Ca we have earthquakes do you want to risk it going off? also if you want something for security reasons just hide some shells in plain sight.
retreat! we must go comrade we will fight again another day.

A more realistic concern with a loaded shotgun in the house is securing it from unauthorized handling or theft, or simply forgetting that it is loaded to begin with when it is handled.

^^^ Exactly. Leaving the shells in pain sight lets the bad guys know there is a shotgun in house and likely unloaded. Store with rounds in the magazine and chamber round when needed. Every thug in the world knows that sound.

Please get your information from a reliable source...like either an instructor or books that are about gun safety and usage. Also, by reading up on various firearm web sites info pages. Go to the user guides of your particular manufacturers firearm and read that. As noted by others...safety, storage and use of your firearm should be understood before implmentation.

By law, somewhere someplace in invisable ink, as a firearm owner you are a prohibited person from being on Facebook and basically any website that lefties visit...
