Yep your most likely a skeet shooter from reading through your posts.
The trap shooter sent him a loader and wads and the blowhards had to be shamed into getting off there knuckles.
That is exactly why all the clay sports are in a major decline and have been for years. Too many blowhards.

I shot trap for a few years and shot it pretty well, still shoot it on occasion, But find skeet, 5 stand and sporting clays a lot more fun

+1 and less attitude.... And more opportunities for a variety of guns 410. 28 gauge, lever action, 1911 (I broke a few Clay's with snake rounds in my 1911 on station 7)

No not even close to getting warm. I talk to the OP regularly via the phone and he posed a very simple question about trap shooting. I have shot all the various clay games but as he posted about trap I tried to offer him Trap advise.
As usual on CalGuns the Non-trap shooters want to change his post to skeet 5 stand handicap doubles turkey shoots billiards acoustic swimming badminton golf hockey and under water taxidermy because they have very little to offer in the way of actual Trap shooting experience.
All the averages from the ATA and PITA come out in yearly book form so the smoke blowers have to hide behind a screen name or we can look them up.
When it's all said and done the OP will most likely get his hands on experience with a wide variety of trap guns in April when I bring them down from NorCal.
This really isn't a good source for someone wanting to get into the sport and I can help him out in April and get him headed in the right direction without all the extraneous noise.

Lynn, I'll be 60 in May, so still too young for ATA Sub Jr

Skeet is for old women, I shoot FITASC. And while were at it, American skeet and American trap are dumbed down versions of their international counterparts.

Someone opened a thread about the declining amount of shooters in trap

Doesn't surprise me with their attitude

People get scared by them !

ATA is the easiest target presentation. Looking at top scores makes it rather obvious. Shooting it competitively is more a mental game trying to maintain the required focus in a rather boring venue.

A “field” configuration is the most versatile amongst the various games. Certainly if you find yourself gravitating to a specific game, then get a specific tool but don’t expect any miracles. It’s still mostly the Indian and not the arrows.

I mostly shoot skeet as I can shoot it on weekday evenings. Most games are more social than trap being that you only have 1 shooter on stage at a time. No one is worried about “cadence” and the like.

i shoot for fun. i am 30.. plenty of time to get competitive with clay sports still. that said, you don't need to see my scores to know it is easy:

just the local guys, at the most recent shoot, 32% of the shooters missed 2 or less out of 50. this is just for those new to the sport. everyone else here that shot trap for a month or two already knows trap targets are easy.

new shooters dont know what they dont know. lots don't even realize there are various clay sports to choose from, or think that trap refers to clay sports in general. i am just giving the advice i wish i got when i first started to explore other clay sports.

So all those shooters are new shooters?
The OP went out and shot 2 rounds of trap and broke 26 out of 50.
Maybe he should shoot with your bunch of beginners with less than 2 months in so he can shoot perfect scores?
I hope you don't think I believe that 32% of new shooters are averaging 96 out of a 100.

I would like to make you a wager. You take the OP shooting for 100 birds each and if you both shoot 96 or higher I will give him a free shotgun. And to be fair about it you can both practice for 2 months like you said the 32% did.
In April when I am in SoCal you can both show me how easy 96 out of 100 is and he gets a shotgun.

you are missing my point entirely. i am really not trying to be an asshle lol.
i obviously didn't say a new shooter will shoot a 24 average after 2 months. I said that after 2 months of shooting, they will know that trap targets are easy. the point is that a lot of trap shooters who spend so much time shooting to pick up an extra bird out of 100, yet cant break 12 on a skeet or 5 stand field.

and for me... i dont need two months of practice, i need 1 round

i cant take the OP as i live in norcal. anyone in the east bay wants to come up and shoot any of my shotguns, PM me!
