You can try the silver braze, but any finish in the area will be gone. Those are judgement calls based on personal factors and inherent value.
This seems like about what I would do in OP's position. Good luck

You bought it used with a 30 day return policy (generous of them). 30 days are up so LGS has no responsibility to do anything.

Maybe just maybe the manufacture might fix it depending on their policy but again that would be generous of them.

Frankly I don't see why you would feel you are entitled to not pay for the repairs yourself.

Maybe your poll needs some additional choices.

            h. Man up, buy some big boy pants if I don't have any and get it fixed or buy a replacement barrel.
            i. Cry in my beer and see if the addition of salt makes it taste better.
            j. Start a poll that makes it appear as if I have an entitlement mentality.

Who is the manufacturer? That would make a big difference in your options.

With old guns you are lucky you did not get hurt with the malfunction. Unless there is obvious fraud or a statement was made to misrepresent the condition then it looks like a nice wall hanger to me unless you want to fix it. Just remember every other part has the same wear and tear on it and the next accident could be worse. Good luck

I would contact the manufacturer,, tell them your favorite shotgun finally had a problem and want to fix it. Ask them if they can do it and how much will it cost. You might get lucky.

No misrepresentations of any sort were made to me.

I didn't really buy the gun to shoot trap, it is my first shotgun and after buying it and taking it too the range to shoot I sort of became addicted to the sport. I've expressed concern to older and wiser folks (my dad and a few others who know better) that I was putting undue stress on the old field gun and I was universally told I would never shoot it too much. I thought guns made in the '70s were made to last a lifetime, even mass produced ones. With that perspective I've purchased a few older guns. I don't buy junk but yet your post makes me want to rethink this practice. The paradox being they say new guns are garbage too (for example, modern Marlin 336 and Rem 870 express which seem to have such reputations based on what you read on this board and others). Thanks for the advice.

If you were to post the make and model someone here may have a barrel for sale.An Ithaca from the mid 50`s is still going strong, my personal Ithaca`s from the 60`s are still going strong. Are you positive the barrel was properly attached ? Most malfunctions are operator induced
