Broken gun, what would you do? POLL

Three months ago I purchased a mid-1970's model pump shotgun on consignment at LGS. Nothing fancy but really nice firearm. Yesterday while shooting trap, the part of the barrel which attaches to the magazine tube sheared from barrel. My receipt from the store says 30-day return policy. If you were in my shoes would you:

    A) Expect manufacturer to address the problem by providing replacement parts for free
    B) Expect manufacturer to provide replacement parts at discount
    C) Expect LGS to provide refund/store credit up to their consignment fee on the firearm
    D) Expect full refund from LGS
    E) Both B and C
    F) Eat it, and use this as chance to upgrade your barrel
    G) Other, please comment

      G.

I would contact the maker and see if they make an offer to replace the barrel.
I don't see that they or the LGS has any obligation here, it is a used gun with unknown history.

If the maker won't help, then move to F.

BTW, what brand and model did this?

Its 45 years old, you knowingly bought it used, you have no idea how it was taken care of, and you want to know if it should be fixed for free?

Take it to a smith and have them silver solder the fitting back in olace, then shoot it for another 45 years. Your kids can take it for the same repair if it happens again.

its a used gun, no one is responsible for it but the current owner and that is you.

Did you shoot it during the 30day that the LGS gives you ? if you had, the problem may have shown up then and you might have had some leeway with the LGS but now, its your gun. If you did shoot it during the 30day, good for you but its still your gun now.

Get it fixed and enjoy the heck out of it for a few decades.

Maybe LGS can order you a new barrel and give you any discount they receive on the order. Not required, just good ju ju for the store.

You're 60 days past the LGS warranty.

You're 40 years past the mfg warranty.

                Go shopping for parts.

No, I would like to understand what the community at large would do, several choices do not include a free fix

It is a used gun, you get to eat it. The manufacturer might be nice and give you a discount, but unless they have a transferable lifetime warranty you have to buy the parts when you find them.

This. Or sell it to someone who can fix it.

LGS owes you nothing but a good recommendation for a welder or smith.

Read up on brazing and give it a DIY spin with silver solder. Make sure you understand how heating may affect the steel.

                      Manufacturer owes you nothing.

Ghetto fix, pipe clamp and JB weld.

I'd contact the mfg and see if they can offer exchange/repair for a discount. I wouldn't 'expect" one, but giv 'em a chance. Barring that/or if discount is innefective, buy a new/used barrel from another source.

You can try the silver braze, but any finish in the area will be gone. Those are judgement calls based on personal factors and inherent value.

                          That's pretty funny.

Like others said, you'll have to eat it and see if you can get it repaired or replaced with a part from the manufacturer.

The LGS and original seller is free and clear.

Silver solder. And nobody owes you anything for that problem. It's understood when you buy a gun that old, that these things may happen and you may need to put more $$ into the gun to restore or maintain it.
