Jaysus WMT makes THAT much of a difference!? Now I don't feel so bad when I wasn't able to consistently hit 2 inch targets at 75 yards. I just feel a bit bad.

Using good ammo makes such a huge difference in all my rimfires and centerfires. I have found that match grade stuff is currently easier to find than lesser ammo, for both .22LR and centerfire but especially .22LR. If you shoot something no less than Wolf Match Extra but preferably something like Eley Match you will at least know the limits of your barrel, trigger, etc. Once you get hooked on Eley, please don't buy it all up.Comment

Your groups are small enough now at 50 yards, instead of throwing 25 bullets at the same target, set up a grid of targets on the paper and try 3-5 shots each. That may help you get a lot better feedback on your technique, when you do something right or wrong. Also will help remove your head position as a factor if you don't move it between shots for each group.
I actually like these sighting-in targets from Bass Pro ( http://www.basspro.com/RedHead-Rifle...duct/10203093/ ) to use as a regular target. A pad of 25 is $5, and each fresh sheet gives you 5 targets. The lines surrounding each center point will also help you line up your scope exactly center each time, so you can really focus on trigger control.
Maybe even start at 25 yards and work on just making ragged holes in the center. Once you can do that at 25 yards, you know your trigger is working, and you can deal with the other issues as you go to greater distances.
BTW, I've found I can do <1 MOA at 100 yards with a 4x scope no problem, a lot more magnification just makes things look shakier. Personally when I spent more $$ for a scope, I got one with adjustable objective vs super great magnification. What that means is that scopes are normally calibrated parallax-free for one distance, something like 50 yards for a rimfire scope or 150 yards for a centerfire scope, and at other distances you may find the image will shift (have parallax) if you don't have exactly the same cheek weld/eye position on each shot. Adjustable Objective will let you set the scope for the distance you are shooting, that will take consistent eye position and cheek weld out as one of the reasons you are not grouping tighter.
Randall has a great illustration of what good ammo can do for you vs the bulk packaged cheap plinking stuff, but I think you are most of the way there with CCI standard velocity ammo. That's about as accurate as you can get w/o match ammo and you can shoot small groups with that.
Keep at it!Last edited by Trgt; 01-08-2014, 11:52 PM.Comment

I'm always amazed how you guys can shoot with so well with irons, I have terrible vision and have a hard time seeing normal things at 50 yards.Comment

Well, possible on a solid built 22 gun but mine suck. No access to match ammo, I'm gonna buy that 22 gauge to sort my bulk to match.

This might just sound like semantics, but I always shoot better when I think "press" instead of "squeeze" or "pull." I'll even say "press" out loud before firing when I start to struggle with accuracy. I'm not sure why, but it brings everything back together for me. You might want to see if it works for you, too.Anchors Aweigh

I don't mean to necro-bump this thread, but I just recently purchased a Savage Mk II F and mounted an EGW Rail using a Nikon Prostaff 2.5-10x40.
There are a few flaws that I've come to find that you MAY also be experiencing...
- There's slop in the trigger, many people have added a small disk-like washer to the firing trigger to reduce/remove the side-to-side play in the trigger.
- The default stock is really short. It didn't sit properly against my shoulder and was causing a short/bend in my wrist due to the short pull length. Some people buy the recoil pad thingies.. I just cut and rolled up a cheap mouse pad and secured it using some tape. Gave me that extra length to make the gun feel a little more comfortable in my shoulder to hand.
- For some reason my gun took about 5 bricks of CCI Mini-Mags to get from shooting good to great... As my barrel gets dirtier, my groups get progressively better, I'm not positive if that's because I'm getting more comfortable shooting, or if the barrel is actually shooting better the dirtier it is.
- I had small period where the magazine was feeding oddly. As I rode the bolt forward I was shoving a small part of the round into the side of the chamber, thus... kinda screwing up the front of the projectile.. I had to slap my magazine around a bit to get it to feed properly. Turns out I had a good amount of powder build up on the edge of the magazine.
Hope this helps.Last edited by Duy12B; 02-06-2014, 6:21 PM.Comment

I was not using a sling. No shooting coat. No shooting glove. No other support.
The vertical stringing was my pulse.Comment

Like me you've got a little vertical stringing, probably fatigue... slinging up tighter and taking more rests will tighten that up a bit.
