    Cabelas ammo hording?

So here's the story. Was getting pissed trying to find some decent 22lr at a fair price. Was on gunbot.net every 5 minutes on my phone waiting for deals to pop up. Had maybe three or 4 opportunities but stuff was literally selling out before I could get my shipping/billing info in. Finally a box of CCI mini mags pop up on Cabela's and and with out even looking at what im really buying I get my order in because I had all my info already saved with Cabela's. So after getting the order through I get a email conformation that I just bought CCI MAXI Mags WMR. Damnit, in my panic just to get a order in I bought the wrong ammo!

So I figure I will just try to trade the Mags for some LR when it gets in. Shipment gets in last night, I open the box and find some CCI 22lr Standard. Im a little confused, a little stoked, and even a little concerned. CCI Standard never became available through cabelas in the 1 day it took them to ship my order.

Now Im starting to think Cabelas has more ammo in stock than they are offering, only putting a little bit on the their site at a time, limiting sales to one box hoping people just come on the site to buy other things to minimize the shipping cost. Kind of like how Walmart is doing it.

What do you guys think? Could Cabelas be hording their ammo or do you think it was just a random fluke. I hate to give businesses with poor ethics my money but I also would like some ammo at a decent price.

Poor ethics? Really now. They aren't price gouging like some place with cheaper in their name. I believe most of the ammo is going to their retail stores and the rest ends up online.

I'm no here to tell stories or conspiracy theories, if ammo is available, I'll buy it. Cabelas may very well be "hoarding" ammo but I ain't complaining. I had several chances to buy the 1k packs of M22 and the Federal 2,100 ammo cans and even scored a Remington Bucket of Bullets.

Plus they don't just shove crap into the box and ship it (Gander I'm looking at you) or don't charge you an arm or leg for shipping (cough Midway cough).
You can give peace a chance...

We'll cover you if it doesn't work out...

Cabelas is a absolute top notch outfit. They offer very fair prices on both the products and shipping compared to most other places.

I don't blame them for doing whatever funny business they do with .22 lr ammo, I just wish they would up their limit to 500 rounds per order on all .22 lr.

Personally Id rather a company price gouge than hoard to make money from other sales. Atleast Gouging is upfront and honest. Its a free market and they can charge what ever they like, I get to be the one who decides if I buy. But you can call me a whiner or over sensitive when I walk into wally world and the clerk says no ammo available only to see him pull some out from under the counter for the next customer. F that bullcrap. That's just deceitful and poor ethics.

Not saying I wouldn't order from them again because truth be told their prices and shipping usually beats out everyone else. I just like to know what animals' crap I stepped in after I step in it.

Makes no sense to me. They make money by moving inventory. Lots & lots of inventory.

I'd just be happy I got my .22LR & hope they screw up like that again.

Hope ya at least got a reacharound on the shipping. THAT'S my beef with Cabelas.

DID you pay Magnum prices? The Standard Velocity CCI is actually in high demand. Guys who buy it are usually picky target shooters looking for best accuracy.

What do I think? I think you don't understand how to use the word "fair" properly.

It's a free market. If you don't like their prices, "fair" means you are free not to shop there.

I never said they weren't being fair...

Sometimes its how you look at it. If they're holding back it could be to prevent small groups of people getting all they're selling... they're trying to spread the ammo around .

I agree, and getting people to their site looking for ammo gets people to buy other stuff. If they limit the ammo, the longer it last and the more often people come to the site. Think about how many people rush to their site when a 100 box of CCI stingers for 6.99 pops up on gunbot.net. Now think about all those people who loaded up their carts waiting for a decent ammo to become available but wanted to be able to justify the shipping

I think I paid 3.99 for a box of 50. Pretty new to the world of 22s and never bought Magnums before so IDK. I am happy I got the right ammo was just a little confused on what happened.

Im the guy ordering single boxes of 50 and 100 from cabelas because I have basically no ammo. Just picked up my 10/22 two weeks ago. So the shipping was rougher than sandpaper for toilet paper

They shipped you the wrong ammo, which actually happened to be in your favor. From this you conclude that Cabela's is hoarding ammo and trying to trick people into buying the wrong product? Only to then what, ship them the product that they intended to order but due to a mistake, didn't? Your tinfoil hattery is excellent young sir, I hereby award you one shiny tinfoil badge of honor.

You sound like the media. I never said they are tricking people into buying the wrong ammo. I simply made an observation that they sent me a very high demand product that wasn't in stock. Awesome--yes indeed, but where did it come from and why wasn't it available online.

Considering they have released items at different times, I'd say Cabelas tried to be fair.

They have a ton of stores. They try to be fair and spread the ammo out among their store and sell it online too. There's no enough ammo for them to hoard.

Cabelas has about 46 stores and I'm sure there are other people who want ammo as well so they have to be fair.
