Well, it looks like my observation that 22 prices were dropping was somewhat premature---they had dropped a bit back when I wrote this thread---then went back up...

Yeah the .22 lr panic and prices seemed to start to lesson around Sep-Oct last year(2013) and continue getting a little better until January. Now the panic seems to have gotten worse, and prices are going up again.Comment

I would guess the manufacturers and retail stores are doing everything they can to keep this "shortage" going. They'd much rather get 8 cents a round than 3 cents. It's like when some bond or stock seller wants to unload a very large position -- they don't do it all at once as that will kill the price. A seller has to be very cagy in selling for maximum revenue. Actually, the same is happening now with all the foreclosed real estate.Comment

There is no "shortage" to begin with, lets get that nonsense out of the way first. If there was a shortage there would be none available. Plenty available.
The path to the retail level is just being interrupted by flippers and people willing to pay stupid prices. I just bought 3 boxes of the Federal 50 packs for 2.50 a box yesterday. All that Walmart would sell me.
I did however buy a 550 bulk pack for 21.97 last Saturday.
As I said there is no shortage of ammo for sale. There is a shortage at the local level. Plenty to buy on places like Gunbroker and Forums. You can have all you want if you are stupid enough to pay. If the people would stop paying these stupid prices the price would drop like a rock. And the availability would skyrocket. Please stop supporting the cottage industry of ammo flipping. You are the problem when you do..
People always throw the ugly word "hoarders" out at us people with ammo. Stop that too. I have ammo because I worked to get it at normal prices. So called "Hoarders" are not the problem. No such damn thing when it comes to ammo.. Flippers and their customers are the problem..Period.
I paid 21.97 last week for the Federal Bulk pack. Now you feel really idiotic for paying 100.00 on Gunbroker don't you? I have always found ammo at Walmart and my small local store at normal pricing throughout this whole mess. Not often, but it was found at regular prices..Last edited by AR22; 04-01-2014, 4:25 AM.Comment

The flippers(and the lunatics that give them money) are largely to blame for the .22 lr drought, I agree.
There is also the fact that gun owners who usually would be happy having a couple 500 round bricks on hand, learned their lesson and are now stocking up all they can buy. The "shortage" will continue until 1. People stop giving flippers money, and 2. people slow down their buying and don't just buy because its there and they can.
Manufacturers are cranking out .22 lr more than they ever have, the market is so big now that all they can make it satisfies are very small percentage of ammo buyers/shooters out there.Last edited by G21Shooter; 04-02-2014, 8:57 AM.Comment

This is very possible, and what my FFL thinks as well.I would guess the manufacturers and retail stores are doing everything they can to keep this "shortage" going. They'd much rather get 8 cents a round than 3 cents. It's like when some bond or stock seller wants to unload a very large position -- they don't do it all at once as that will kill the price. I do know LOTs of people are making money off the .22 lr shortage.Comment

No clue why idiots on here keep buying from the flippers, they are just continuing the problem. Keep a window up on gunbot.net and everyday you can snag it for under 8 cents a round. Shipping may sting a little but I would rather pay $50-60 online for a brick after shipping than pay some POS on here for $35+ a brick.Comment
