The sad part is ammo cans and buckets were BOTH available and I was new wondering why there was so much stuff in my cart.

A little chatter for you.
My moms family is from Chappell, Nebraska.
Dick and Jim grew up and went to highschool with my mom and aunt in Chappell.
Local lore is that the Cabela brothers wanted to get out of the garage and get the business going. They went to the city council and asked for a break on taxes if they started a new business in Chappell, then population 2500.
Chappell already had a cheese factory in town and things were "booming".
The city fathers said no dice to the brothers.
The brothers said ok and started the business 30 miles down highway 30 in Sidney.
The rest is history.
60 something years later Chappell, Nebraska (pop 929) would dry up and blow away if it werent for Cabelas employees renting the houses and commuting to Sidney.
The cheese factory shut down in '72.

Still wondering why you think flippers are responsible for the shortage? Flippers are re-introducing the ammo to the marketplace, albeit at a high price. The point is that it's still getting sold and it's still making it into the buyer's hands. It's not affecting supply/demand and buyers are still buying it. The HOARDERS...and you can debate whether the righteous people that buy 50k from this thread but have a halo around their head because they're only buying it for themselves to shoot are hoarders...are the ones that are taking inventory out of the marketplace and affecting the supply available to others. Flippers don't cause shortages, hoarders do.

I always stocked about a years worth. During the first shortage, I shrugged, put my head down and carried on. Gave about half my stock away at cost, and shot about 2/3 of the rest. Never ran out of the calibers that flippers were hoarding and never paid or let a friend pay them a dime. This second time around I did the same, and other than .22, I never got low on anything since I didn't take any classes during the last two years except Appleseed. I think the compact size and lower overhead has made .22 easier to keep flipping and cleared off shelves. I think that is the only difference between the centerfire shortage being basically over while rimfire rages on. I forgot the guys name, but there is a guy on YT that tracks flipper inventories on the major auction sites, and not even counting the forums that every area has, there is enough .22 being sold for 4-5x retail to put an end to the shortage right here and now. People just need to wise up and give them the bird.
