Marlin 795 MEGATHREAD Part Deuce

This is a sticky topic.

I have searched this Mega-thread (and others) and have to still ask how uncommon this Marlin-22 issue is basically a loading and/or Magazine problem:
Six month old 795, nothing modified.
Roughly 2000-rounds fired to date, several different, mid priced brands.
Cleaned and lightly lubricated 4-times so far, not much noticeable wear.
Three people have used this Rifle for 2-day Appleseed trainings.
Standard, nickel/steel magazines used only, none drop freely (sounds normal)
When this Rifle was really new, the action was flawless and appeared to have very little preference for different rounds. But as it has been used more it is tending not to want to strip the FIRST (occasionally the 2nd) Round from the magazine easy enough to still allow enough momentum to *completely* close the bolt.
98% closed bolt results in a Failure-To-Fire.
The last time that this happened the Rifle was subsequently torn down for cleaning & a little lubrication (and inspection) but since the action looked fine, it was reassembled and repeated the identical problem - - I have a vague theory - - maybe the orange follower (or spring) inside of these 4-different, factory magazines has become a problem.
The 10-round design seems to seriously load up that mag-spring. Some owners may agree that there 9th & 10th round loaded into these magazines are a struggle to slide into the mags without a specialized tool. The pressure from that spring seems to also create a new problem: the rim of the 22-brass seems to dent the orange/plastic follower from the excessive pressure needed to load the last couple of rounds. I have noticed that my 7-round magazine rarely demonstrates this 1st round FTF problem, but it increasingly had become a problem with the 10-round mags.
Is is as simple as I think? Is these insufficient momentum for the main spring at the rear of the rifle's action to overcome the friction (and dented pocket in the follower) to BOTH strip the 1st round from the magazines lips AND to move the bolt 100% of the way forward??
Is this one of those "nobody ever wrote about" issues? Are new followers or reduced (mag) spring lengths going to just create new/other problems? I know that mcarbo-springs are more trigger related, but is there any chance that these will help?
Anyone want to take a crack at this odball issue?Comment

Is Marlin 795 LTR back in stock for real?
I know it was a limited run and they disappeared last year but I now see them in stock at several shops: http://www.wikiarms.com/guns?q=marlin+795+ltrComment

Never heard of this issue exactly.I have searched this Mega-thread (and others) and have to still ask how uncommon this Marlin-22 issue is basically a loading and/or Magazine problem:

I would:
1 Try new magazines... the springs shouldn't have worn out yet... but its possible. (dunno that I have ever seen replacement springs and followers)
2 Check the magazine catch... if it gets bent too much it won't put enough pressure on the magazine to feed correctly. (This has been reported numerous times when people try to bend theirs to make the magazines drop free) (You can check it by holding the magazine in place when firing, no issues when held.. its the catch)
3 Change the main/recoil spring... just in case to help the bolt slam home and strip the rounds harder.
4 Check that all the e-clips on the action are there... missing ones can cause all sorts of issues.
5 Make sure the action/trigger guard screws are tight.
Done any modifications to the action?
The magazines are not drop free on the 795, that's totally normal.
The gun should not fire when the bolt is only 98% into battery.. an out of battery detonation is serous even on a rimfire.
mcarbo springs wouldn't help at all if anything could cause greater problems in this case... They are to make the trigger lighter and subsequently they lighten the hammer strikes. Get the current issues straightened out before you add more variables.
How are you loading the first round? I personally pull the LSHO lever to drop the bolt. If you are pulling the bolt back manually make sure you are not short stroking it or riding the bolt closed.
They are out of stock but still listed on https://www.galleryofguns.com and states that they are a Davidson's exclusive. (galleryofguns is their website) so that's the most accurate source if they are coming back or not IMO.Is Marlin 795 LTR back in stock for real?

I've been thinking of pillar- and action-bedding my Marlin 795, which I have installed in a walnut Model 70 stock. Does anyone have any suggestions for what to use as pillar sleeves. I know people have used brass sleeves, or the threaded tubes that are used as lamp components. Just wondering what others have done in the same circumstances, looking for suggestions.Comment

I'd be interested in the measurements of the tube you do end up using.I've been thinking of pillar- and action-bedding my Marlin 795, which I have installed in a walnut Model 70 stock. I took some measurements, don't know if they'll be helpful for your application but here goes.I've been thinking of pillar- and action-bedding my Marlin 795, which I have installed in a walnut Model 70 stock. Takedown Screw, Rear (New Style):
.1645" Dia. at the shaft
.525" length shaft
1.0270" length from the bottom of the head to the tip
Note: I also measured a stock screw, which measured a little bit longer @ 1.0485" total length, the other measurements were pretty much the same.
Takedown Screw, Front:
.1660" Dia. at the shaft
.2465" length shaft
.75" length from the bottom of the head to the tip
Also measured from the top of the trigger guard inside the stock of a 795 to the shelf where the receiver rests.

.3365"

I guess I missed measuring the distance from the screw to the side walls, which would be helpful for thickness of a pillar. I'll try to grab that some other time.

795 LTR
Probably NOS, but LTRs still exist - I just got one from Buds and handled it while doing DROS. Very happy I finally own one! It's nearly perfect except for the horrible gritty trigger )) Will have to install DIP or KATThey are out of stock but still listed on https://www.galleryofguns.com and states that they are a Davidson's exclusive. Some folks say one can make an LTR simply by installing Tech Sights and a GI sling but that's not completely true:
- LTRs don't have the rear sight on the barrel and thus look much cleaner
- 'Appleseed' engraving on the receiver adds personalityComment

Turners Fall Flyer is out and it has the Marlin 795 @ 139.98 and the Model 60 @ 159.98 on page 36.
And for people outside CA and in the south Academy Sports has an interesting deal:
Buy a Remington 783 for $259.99 after rebate and get a Marlin 795 for free!

Was yours complete? I literally just bought one (from Gallery of Guns). Went to LGS to DROS and no second mag or Appleseed Certificate. Spoke with a friend who bought one for her son and she had other issues (missing front Tech Sight). They never made it right. I'll see how it goes for me.Probably NOS, but LTRs still exist - I just got one from Buds and handled it while doing DROS. Very happy I finally own one!
