I never had a problem like that with mine. I got a HP22 back in 1997and put over 10K rds of all kinds of ammo thru it with no problem. I did start to have a problem with the trigger ( I think the spring was giving out) sent it back and they repaired it no questions ask. Put a few thousand more thru it and then had a stupid LEO break it by forcing back the slide without the mag in it to put there zip tie in the mag well. Again I called Phoenix and sent it back and they replaced it no questions ask I dont think that many companies would replace a gun that was broken on purpose like that and this speaks alot about them. They even paid my FFL to do the transfer to replace the gun and sent me some extra mags for it.

I have had very good luck with my HP22 maybe I am luck or something but I would not think twice about buying another....One thing I will say is they are a small company and have limited hours so maybe you will have to call a few time to get someone on the phone but they always do there best to try to make you happy. I wish more company were like Phoenix

Maybe something has changed in materials or workmanship since you've bought yours. All I can say, two HP22a pistols made about two years apart with the same problem. The second one fed ONLY CCI standard velocity ammo and it still developed the frame crack. As for their customer service, I have yet to be contacted by them two days after leaving them a message. Hmm, I guess I'll call again today.

You do get what you pay for.
Mine had the very same crack...Sent it back.

A short time later it came back saying all is fine??????

That looks like a design flaw....

the thin metal can't handle the flex of the frame during firing.

I would actually chuck it up in a mill and recess the thin areas alongside the magwell down to the thicker material...

I think it would handle the barrel whip better if the thin webbing was cut away and not subject to that sort of strain.

If Phoenix-Arms doesn't exchange it again, I will do that and see what happens.

You can't go wrong with that decision. The 22/45 is built like a tank.

Their one of the ring of fire companies that produce junk zinc handguns. Realy, how can you even get mad for the price. If you want a mouse gun the Beretta 21 comes in 22lr, has a forged barrel, steel slide, forged aluminum frame, and sells in the low to mid 300's.

I am still waiting for Phoenix Arms to contact me. It has been almost 2 months since I left them a message.

No issues in Three Years, yet...
This, I have never seen a cracked frame on an HP22 that ran only the recommended ammunition. You cheap out and shoot high velocity ammo and your gun breaks, don't see how that is any different from shooting +P ammunition in a gun that is not +P raged and having it break...

I am not the only person that has experienced this with standard velocity ammo. Do a search on the web and you WILL find others. I am done with Phoenix Arms. They deserve the bad rap that they are getting. I will not buy another HP22a until they redesign the magazine well.

Just got back from the range and found that the frame has cracked around the cross pin (part 249)..

I'd shoot it until it dies but I don't want metal fragments in my face. Stupid thing is way too fragile.

Should have done the research before buying a junk gun.
