Went to the 25 yrd indoor range last night with a friend's .22 rifle that's been sitting in her closet for the last 15 years or so. Probably hasn't been fired in 20 years. I cleaned it up yesterday afternoon and took it to the range last night. Nice shooting gun. I was very pleased with the results, especially since I've never fired this gun before.

Let me add my thanks to DWH as well and also to SnS for filling in for the matches. In my retirement (kind of) these matches are a great stress reliever for me plus I enjoy the comaraderie (or however you spell that) between the folks who shoot in the matches. Kudos to all.

If I were to put techsights on my marlin, which category would that fall under, seeing as it has no magnifying optics?

Yours would fall under the Iron sights.

                      June Rimfire Match

I'm surprised to see I am the first one posting up some targets this month

I went to the Vallejo fun show on Saturday and picked up a super clean Mossberg M44US from a dealer I have gotten to be friends with. He bought it from CMP years ago, added an aperture front sight to it, and also purchased a magazine and trigger guard. It's in beautiful shape and I will post up some pics of it soon. I'm using the Mossberg S-100 aperture rear sight.

I went out to USI yesterday morning and here are the results at 50 Yds:

I collect Military Arms and enjoy shooting in local matches. I also collect older Lever Actions, especially those chambered in odd/old cartridges. If you have a nice old Winchester or Marlin in 25-20, 32-40, 38-55, 40-60, 45-70, etc etc, please PM me and we can work out a deal.

                        Today's Targets

Shot the 50 yd iron and scope targets and the 100 yd scope target today. First target is the 50 yd irons shot with CZ UltraLux and Wolf MT ammo. Score is 47.

Second is the 50yd scoped target shot with Kimber 82G, Weaver 20x scope and Wolf MT. Score is 19.

Third is the 50 yd scoped target shot with Kimber 82G, Weaver 20x scope and Lapua Center-X. Score is 22 (Expensive ammo does make a difference).

Fourth is the 100yd scoped target shot with Kimber 82G, Weaver 20x scope and Lapua Center-x. Score is 54. Four Xs and 1-10. Three shots in the same hole at lower left of X.

The Kimber is getting better every time I shoot it. Might have to get a part time job to afford the Lapua Center-X. Interesting is that is shoots to the same POI as the Wolf MT, just more consistent.

Shush, don't tell anyone but its the AMMO!! Seriously the Center-X ammo made a huge difference at the 100yd range. The Wolf is nearly as tight at 50 but at 100 the Center-X really shines. The Weaver scope helped a lot as well. Even though the magnification is less than the one I was using it is much clearer and the contrast is so much better.

Is it OK to print the 100yd target in grayscale to shoot with irons? The color doesn't show up at all, at least with these old eyes. Oh, and thanks. Of course some luck was involved as well.

Ammo that my Kimber likes in order of accuracy: Lapua Center-X, Wolf MT and Eley Target (about the same) and Federal Target 711B. Doesn't care much for any Aquila ammo or CCI SV or any High Velocity ammo. Also shot some SK Match Rifle, Eley Club and Eley Match. Those shot pretty good but not as good as the first three that I mentioned. Of course your Kimber may have slightly different preferences.

I bought a box of the Lapua X-ACT from Eabco just for S#!+s n' giggles when I was doing my testing for the Savage. I'm sure glad it didn't like it.... $25.00 a box is way out of my price range. Center-X for me didn't work out too well either. Maybe now the rifle's broke in a bit. Funny how some rifles actually like cheaper ammo better!! Nice shooting by the way!!! Gonna be hard to beat. I think if you shoot the irons as well as the scoped, we'll need to make a target just for you with some really light color patterns next month. Heh

My Savage BTVS does not like Center-X or Eley Target or Eley Match or Eley Club. Seems she only likes Wolf MT and SK Standard Plus. Shoots Federal Target 711B pretty well but not as good as the others. From my experience with 5 different 22s they all seem to like different ammos the best. My CZ and Kimber seem to like the same, almost. The Savage is the pickiest (is that a word?) of all.

PS: Where did you get the Center-X, how much per box?
