The CMMG 22LR upper works perfectly with a New Frontier lower. Using a Black Dog magazine, the bolt hold open works fine. It's a really cheap and quite accurate range toy. I have never personally tried a S&W 22LR AR15 but read that they were not particularly accurate.

You can put together a dedicated 22LR AR15 using a CMMG upper ($350 with coupon from midway) and New Frontier lower ($135 or so including tax and dros), for about the same price as a S&W M&P. And pop on an centerfire upper (with bullet button present) if you need.

There's a difference between the bolt locking back because of it catching on the follower and the bolt being able to lock back with or without a magazine.

I.E., with the CMMG BHOA you can lock the bolt open even without a magazine and it will stay open. If you run dry, the bolt locks back and when you drop the magazine the bolt stays open...

Without it, you cannot lock the bolt open and if you run dry, as soon as you remove the magazine the bolt goes forward.

For some, they dont care... For others who use it as an exact replica to our main .223/5.56 AR-15's... It's more important to us.

Looks like Riflegear has the CMMG upper for $399. I plan on doing the same build.

The old Cav Arm's lowers are being made again.....although it appears that they are going to be a little more expensive this time around at $199 stripped (wow!)

GWACS Armory offers the lightweight, durable CAV-15 MKII rifle in a variety of colors. Made in the USA. Lifetime Warranty

I plan too, just need to find an upper with no forward assist.

Why'd you post this? Its revived build ideas that I thought were no longer possible.

^^This^^ I've run mag after mag after mag thru mine and I've only had one (1) F2F early on and I'm thinking it was the mag because it never happened again.
A good rifle build isn't cheap, but a bad one can be expensive!

Sorry to raise a dead thread...

I am building a stripped LW-15 Lower with a Tac Sol 22LR Upper. My question is do I really need a New Frontier Armory Blowback hammer or will I be ok with the standard Hammer in my CMMG LPK?

A standard hammer should work with no problems. I know my NFA lower had problems with the polymer hammer, but when I used a standard lower there were no issues.

Either way, just try it out and see if it works.

You would need a standard (heavier hammer) for it. The stock hammer is too light and cannot be used for .22s. I highly recommend ALG's ACT trigger. Riflegear has it for $70. It's nickle plated making it a good choice for dirty .22s.

My aluminum lower with a metal LPK works perfectly with my CMMG dedicated .22lr upper. It only started having issues with the NFA complete polymer lower. OP has the stripped polymer lower with a metal CMMG parts kit, so shouldn't that be okay?

Assuming the TacSol upper isn't too different than CMMGs..
