GSG 1911 issues

From what I have read lately ATI has changed the spring and it"s the same on both ends. There are alot of threads about the GSG1911 on the 1911 forum.

Yes, the new spring they sent me is the same on both ends. The previous spring was different on each end.

Still waiting for the guide rod.

I was hoping not to run into any problems, but the other day at the range my guide rod broke. The rod part of the guide rod snapped off real clean. I had it for 3 months and shot ~1500 rounds.

All laws on magazine capacity I can find state that 11 in your gsg is a crime.
The magazine needs to be preban in order to have 11+. Are there mags for a gsg that did not exist in 1990?
Please someone clarify this. In a google search I turn up a 8 page Calguns thread where they call 11 illegal.

Well Coyote, that is wrong. 11 rounds is just fine to own and use. Acquiring them for non-exempt people is the challenge.

I think the theory goes that if you purchased a 10rd mag, and at some point you can squeeze 11 into it, since you didn't manufacture it and it happens from use, its OK. I would feel uncomfortable. not worth the hassle with LE IMO.

the 11th round is a moot point since it will NOT feed round #2
(fyi sig is coming out with a 1911/22 that uses the same mags.. internals are different i "hear" they are made to hold 14 rounds... when myself and some friends ordered a bunch of gsg mags one of them had a sig floorplate.. all 12 of the mags we ordered will hold the 11th round but none of them will feed round number 2)

also 100% legal to have 11rounds in an AR HOWEVER you must comply with AW rules in order to do so..

Sig is already out and is infact the exact same gun, made by the same people and uses the same parts. Difference? The Sig on the side of it.

got my gsg1911 2 month ago, so far, about 1000 rds fired with 2 FTE . rod spring is not tapered . I'm happy .

The latest update:

Well about 2-3 nights ago I got a startling knock on the door. It was UPS (strange, normally they come early in the day).

Anyways, package said ATI. I was soooo excited.


I open it up and what do I see?


The same efin spring, washers and NO 'recoil guide'.... again. It was like groundhogs day.

I sent a heated email to Nathan at ATI.

Two days later (today), I get an email from Michael:

Nathan forwarded me your email and let me begin by saying that I apologize if you were not made aware that the GSG 1911 recoil guide has been on back order. This may or may not have been the case when you ordered the part but we have been without these parts for about a month or so. We received an emergency resupply from Germany and your order has been processed and will ship out today.
Once again I am sorry for any breakdown in communication that may have occurred regarding the back order situation. You will receive your replacement part soon.
