GSG 1911

There have been alot of problems associated with the newer, plastic, fluted guide rod that GSG has been putting in the pistols. Supposedly, ATI is aware of the problem and has been working with GSG to get it resolved. The earlier GSG 1911 had a solid guide rod that was virtually problem free... it seems that they went to this as a "cost savings."
My GSG has the solid guide rod and a metal barrel bushing (came that way, never had to get anything replaced from ATI).
Never had any problems feeding or ejecting the ammo that I use, except for the Federal Champion BLUE box stuff (red box is fine). I wonder if the newer guide rode would make any difference, but I don't really care to find out since what I have now is working great.Comment

Mine also has a solid guide rod and I have not experienced a problem with it either - and I've got over 4000 rounds through mine to date.My GSG has the solid guide rod and a metal barrel bushing (came that way, never had to get anything replaced from ATI).

My post made reference to the newer, fluted plastic one that many guys have found in more recent production purchases. It is obviously inferior to the solid rod that was originally installed in the pistol by GSG; some of those that have them have experienced failures.Comment

That was the route that I went. Received it today. Will play with it on the 21st at USI (Bay Point). BYOA and you can play with it too. There have been a bunch of posts about this on Rimfire Central and the 1911 forums and the good, cheap, permanent fix appears to be this SS guide rod (scroll down...): http://www.cwaccessories.com/services.htmlUnited Sportsmen Range Safety Officer
