Looking For Feedback on 22lr 1911

I am looking for feedback on your 1911/22lr conversions or full up 1911 chambered in 22lr. I want to get something to keep up my 1911 skills, so it has to have lock back on last round and same dimensions as full size GI 1911 to fit my holster. (Not the new Browning that is 80% scale)

As far as I know only the old Colt ACE and Advantage Arms conversions have this feature.

Anyone with an ACE, Advantage Arms, full up 1911 chambered in 22lr, or know of any others with lock back that have any personal experiences?

    Thanks for your time!!

Sorry I wish I knew about the lock back features of the others. As for dimensions there are several options that are the same size as a 1911 Govt. Model:

Kimber, ACE (not in production) and Marvel all have decent reputations. I don't know what they do on the lock back question but they are all 1911 Govt issue size I believe.

There is a Colt 1911 22 I believe in production but its a presentation gun I think and not rostered, Chiappia and GSG? I think it is each make one also not on our roster. Kimbers' dedicated 22 is on the roster but to me its expensive at $800 to $1k depending on features. All of these, unlike the Browning, are full size but again I don't know if they lock back for you.

PS...just because they are not on the roster does not mean you can't get them; but you have to work throug the hoops of a single shot conversion to do so.

The slide on my GSG 1911 .22LR locks back after the last round. Works & operates exactly like my Kimber TLE. Feels the exact same too when in my hands, since it's the exact same dimension as my Kimber.

The only differences is that it's a little lighter to hold, and there's pretty much no recoil at all when you shoot it. Good to practice your stance & grip and also your trigger control.

I've had an Ace for 30 years. Absolutely love that gun.

Only thing with the Ace (other than their price) is that the free-floating chamber reduces accuracy. Gives the gun more recoil, though. Fun to shoot a .22, but have it feel like something bigger. And it has all of Colt's traditional quality.

The Tactical Solutions 22 conversion locks back on the last round. I've had one for 4 years and its dead nuts reliable after 10's of thousands of rounds.
            where are my pistol mags?

I didn't see GSG 1911 listed on the CA roster, is it CA approved? that's a nice looking 22lr!

Not yet. He got his via single shot. Word on the street is that they have sent it out for testing just waiting for the answer.
                Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

I have the Advantage Arms .22LR conversion. I use it in on both of my Kimber Target IIs and cannot be happier. It locks back on the last round and has a steel insert where the slide stop contants the slide which is a nice addition since aluminum slides will wear in this area with heavy use.

I had a Kimber slide conversion for a while and it was a blast. I could shoot 10 rounds into about an 1" at 25 yards with Blazer

Sold my 45 and got a 10mm and the slide wont work with that 1911 frame so I sold it.

Damn. Very nice looking 1911! I would jump on this if it was a roster gun!

I'm in the same boat as you. I"m defiantly getting a 22lr pistol soon. Poor selection for CA. Would like a 1911 as well. Personally prefer another gun, rather then a conversion on my current one. Here's Another off roster dedicated 22lr 1911 I was looking at. Has a fixed barrel which is interesting. Not sure if the GSG does. According to this write up it's extremely accurate.

22/45 has the same ergonomics as a 1911
