What .22 for long range?

yup, how long range can a 100yd max rifle be. I know the box says it will carry into the next county but only by accident.
I t will punch paper if adequately compensated for drop. but will not flip a squirrel at 100

Back in the late 80's, a few of us started playing around at a private silloutte club I belonged to. We started shooting at the high power chickens at 200 meters. Once we figured out our hold over, we could consistantly hit them with our .22lrs on a wobbly bench.

I've heard that shooting .22lrs at 100 yards is great training for shooting centerfire at 1000 yards.

Sako's are hard to find now. Try gunbroker or gunsamerica. I think they run around $700 if you can find one.

The rifle below is a Sako Quad, and it shoots like a dream. Very accurate and I have shot out to 300yards with it.

I have a Savage BRJ with a BSA Sweet .22 scope that I have shot out to 305yds with consistency using bulk ammo.

I would recommend this rifle.

Haven't heard many mentions of the Ruger 77/22 ...I have a Clark Custom version, aka "Cruger". I think the only Ruger parts on it are the bolt (reworked) and misc. small parts! http://www.clarkcustomguns.com/7722con.htm

Not cheap, but dead accurate and these have won many championships in the hands of skilled shooters. I have a Nikon Monarch scope on mine, using Eley/Wolf match ammo I have shot sub-MOA at 100yds and have knocked down steel squirrel and pig silhouettes (6" x 10" typically) out to 200yds (with some hold-over, as you run out of elevation adjustment on the scope!).

Finding the ammo your specific gun likes is the key to accuracy with 22's.

As mentioned, CZ's are great - I had a CZ 452 Lux that I bought (without scope) on Gunbroker for $375 4 years ago, using the same Nikon scope I think it was as accurate as the Cruger, and less sensitive to ammo type. I sold it to help pay for the 77/22, but if I had it to do over I would have kept it, saved the extra $800, and bought an Anschutz.
