Hey all im looking into building a super accurate .22 and need to know what is the best rifle and scope for that type of set up. I am a total .22 noob so any help is appreciated. This rifle is going to be used primarily for target shooting and maybe the occasional ground squirrel hunting

Check out what people are using in the Monthly rimfire matches. They shoot out to 100 yards with scoped and iron sighted rifles all the time.

First of all,
You want to go for the really nice bull barrel with the tight chamber.
My favorite is green mountain bull barrel 20"....
I did half inch three shot group at the bench from 50 yards....

Someone from San Jose keeps posting a Winchester 52 for a little less then 600, and you can add a nice scope for as much as you want....the 52 is the ""tanks" of rimfires, the DC-3 ever lasting piece - I own one and I can still hit stuff pretty good beyond a 100 yards. Its a little heavy to take hunting squirls....for that I use a 77/22 with a cheap bushnell scope...works great.

I have and use a CZ UltraLux in the monthly rimfire matches here on CG. Excellent firearm, 28" barrel, great workmanship, heavy action, nice beech stock and shoots MOA at 100yards and beyond with either aperture, iron or scope sights.

For some info on how well this rifle can shoot and the ammo used go over to RimfireCentral.com, join as a member and look up a member with a user name of William Harper. He shoots this rifle out to 300 meters and beyond with MOA results using Aguila Interceptor ammo (40 gr, 1475PFS). You will not be disappointed in this rilfe. (Bolt action by the way). Also check out the CZ forum on the same website for additional info. I have seen this rifle advertised for $375 (used), mine was $400 new + tax + shipping + DROS for a total of about $470. Don't need to change the barrel or float it or bed the action. Just add a YoDave trigger kit ($20 shipped on eBay) for a creepless, 1.5 lb trigger pull.

The other option would be a Kimber 82g (rusty model, but not rusty) from CMP for $425 shipped to your door. CMP does the background check so no DROS required. This is also a bolt action rifle, extremely accurate but single shot. Doubt you can buy a more accurate rifle for the money.

If you want a semi-automatic, can't help there. Bolt actions will be more accurate out of the box than a semi.

10/22 w/green mtn barell=best way for under $500...guess I don't really know how much more accurate you can get...you can diffinetly spend more $$ I jus don't know why...mines shoots under 1/2", an close to 1/4 at 50yds.

I'm not sure that all-out is descriptive enough...just as with most things in life, generally you get what you pay for...that being said...

General opinion seems to be these are best bets for accuracy.

For $250 a stock Ruger 10/22 (semi auto)

For $400 or so a CZ 452 (bolt action)

For $1000+ a KID custom 10/22 (semi auto)

For $1000+ Anshutz (bolt action)

Do keep in mind the limitations of .22LR ... I love it but lets be honest here...its a wimpy round that starts falling badly at only 100 yards. Not useful for hunting purposes at more than 150 yards, and thats pushing it. At longer yardage...yes you can hit things but its more like lobbing than shooting and the slightest breeze will play havoc on your accuracy.

Savage MKII-BTVS would probably do you well. Its around $350-450 at various places, nice stock, free floated bull barrel, ready to put a scope on, and stainless so no rust problems. Very accurate little guns and will be good out past 100 if you're consistent. It also has a great trigger from the box.

KIDD custom 10/22 and dont look back. Easy sub-moa at 100 with good ammo and a good driver.
