Regardless of .22, try to stick with cleaner ammo if possible.

But one of the coolest parts of shooting 22 is blowing through walmart bulk. What's wrong with the dirty stuff?

A lot of people, evidenced by posts in this very thread, have issues with their .22's jamming. One way of making that less frequent is to use cleaner ammo that doesn't foul up the chamber, affecting extraction

Cleaner doesn't necessarily mean more expensive

Most of the CCI stuff is pretty clean, so much so that a number of suppressor companies specifically recommend it for use in their products.

Most of the CCI stuff is a lot more expensive than walmart bulk ammo from what I've seen. I say get the gun a little dirty and deal with a couple failures while saving money on ammo. It's a .22, we don't need to make sure it runs absolutely flawlessly, we just want it to feed bulk ammo.

You can pick up a box of CCI Blazers at Big 5 Sporting Goods for around the same price as Wal-Mart bulk. They are round nose and shoot more accurate then Federal bricks.

Maybe someone else in the forum can advise better; otherwise, I would just call and ask a firearms dealer.

No FFL necessary for conversion kit. I ordered one from MidwayUsa and they shipped it to me in Kalifornia.

Re: Thoughts on .22 pistols purchase

Get a Ruger MKII/III or a Buckmark. Others have mentioned the U22 Neos, its OK but its not in the same league as the MKIII. We have a Neos (6 and 4 inch barrels) and we have hardly shot it since we got a MKIII Hunter.

I am with all the other P22 fan's they have gotten a horrid wrap by people whom got one 7-8 years ago, when they where new and had "issues". I just got mine at the Turner's blackfriday sale price of $249 which is a hell of a price for the gun, I had one as well from a few years ago, which i bought used and have fired 5000+ rounds of cheap ***** wal-mart bulk whatever they had on the shelf and had 0 problems with the gun itself, i did have some duds which was due to crap ammo i am sure.

MY range buddy has an 80's markII target with a bull barrell and its a tack driver for sure, but as far as being lefty the P22 controls and tactical practice the P22 is the way to go for me.

If i was carrying a sidearm it would be a P22, for hunting the Ruger hands down though.

Then again i am considering getting a heritage revolver as my hunting/field sidearm.

i got a neos with 4.5 and 7.5" barrels...i've put 1000+ rounds so far; i can remember only 2 failure to feeds and it was with borrowed cheap ammo...for the most part i only use CCI (standard, minimags, stingers); occasionally some aguila)...time will tell if it's durable, but i don't abuse or toss around my firearms; my sense is it will last a long time for me...

i can't stand cheap, dirty, inconsistent bulk ammo (federal bulk, rem GB and (especially) thunderbolts, win 333, etc.)...it's not that they have a higher propensity to jam, but you have to clean your breech and barrel way more frequently...

3 cents vs 6 cents a bullet; i think i can afford it...

You're paying double. I get to shoot twice as many rounds as you or spend half as much. You're either crazy or rich. I can see spending more for more accurate ammo. But paying more to plink? And for what, so you don't have to clean your gun as often I'll stick with walmart bulk and any other cheap ammo for plinking. Your Neos will run any of the cheap stuff just fine.

                              BTW, welcome to the forum

...i'm neither crazy or rich, but i do make my choices where i want to spend my disposable income...

yes, i have no problem paying a whole 6 cents a bullet to shoot; that's 6 cent vs 3 cents, NOT $6 vs $3...and yes, so i don't have to clean as frequently...

maybe it's not a big deal to me to pay for the better stuff because i don't "plink" indiscriminately; i don't do it with a .40, why should i do it with a .22...

hey, more federal bulk packs for you; i'll stay with my bricks of minimags, stingers and interceptors...what else can i say; that's how i roll...

                                ...and thanks for the welcome
