my 10/22 as that is my only .22lr gun.

Let's put in a qualifier or two: My AR-7 is an AR-7 industries model, which is generally considered the best quality (main difference is barrel - all steel instead of aluminum or composite with a steel sleeve). It came to me with the chamber beveled and polished, and appears to have had some trigger work. The most common problem with any AR-7 is grabbing the magazine. They won't cycle right if the mag isn't freely dangling. Some reported barrel warping with the Charter Arms makes.
The U22 runs like a champ if slightly picky about ammo. It doesn't like the waxy muck on fiocchi rounds (sometimes bolt will close before the next round makes its slow journey up the magazine), and shorter rounds tend to jam. Even with "incompatible" ammo it still goes bang every time. What problems did you see with the range gun?

Semi-auto .22LR rifles can be sometimes finicky when it comes to ammo. If I had to choose it would be a single-shot or bolt-action from this list:
CZ-452 Lux
Marlin 981TS
Marlin Golden 39A
Remington 572 BDL
Springfield Armory M6 Scout
Savage Model 24

my survival rim fire is a 22lr over a 20 gauge.
with some slugs or good buck shot, its handy to take a squirrel to a deer. in a over under configuration very reliable, and with the 20 gauge very handy. These are very popular over the pond not much in the USComment

I think a take down 10/22 will do the job. If you take an allen wrench along and loosen the V-Block than you have two separate pieces. Cheap, reliable and functional.Comment

Well if I can just have one gun it'll be my 10/22. It's jammed once... I think... in over twelve years. But if I'm carrying something heavier for large game it'd be a tricked out MKIII target for backup and small game.Time spent hunting is not deducted from one's lifespan.Comment
