22LR will do some damage. its all about shot placement.

1 shot may or may not kill, but shoot something multiple times, it will die/bleed.

Which is appropriate if what you are shooting is defenseless or running from you. If its anything else you might find yourself bleeding to death with it........

I too had wondered about this - yes I have alternatives (P99) - and did some testing w/ my P22. CCI Velocitors worked best in the pistol and packed the best punch during unscientific testing at an outdoor private range.

They been tough to find though.

stopping power and 22lr should never be in the same sentence.

BS...I'd rather have a 22 in hand against an attacker than just harsh language.

For home protection, use the Aguila 60 grain sniper subsonic round. Cant go wrong if your intended target is within 10 yards and its a head shot. Anything further, Id go with a larger caliber.

But the OP seems to be fixed on finding a 22 round with stopping power. There are better choices out there, no?

Yes but perhaps this is his only gun and his budget and or lack of interest means he doesnt value another gun enough to buy it. Then you might as well maximize the caliber that you have to work with.

Then at least some of us should let him know that 22 is a terrible choice for stopping power in a self-defense situation.

Armed self defense is no academic discussion. If you want to stop the threat to your or others' life, don't rely on a 22 if you can help it.

kinda weird why this would be discussed anyway. I thought shotguns are the baseline.
