This. I was quite surprised when I handled one of the newer models. Try to buy an older one, if possible. Might save a buck or two as well.new ones have bad krinkle paint that strips off while firing and gunks up the action. barrel band, and trigger group are plastic, Barrels are painted instead of blued. Even the "stainless" is a matte silver paint.
Many have complained of deep burrs and machining marks even on the face of the bolt.
They just arent the same gun. Its a different animal.sigpicComment

Sounds like 2007 was the year they went more plastic. I bought a new one last month, No paint issue inside the receiver like others have had. Trigger housing and barrel band is plastic. I picked up a new barrel band steel with sling mounts for seven bucks so not a big issue on that.. trigger housing will be next. I bought a new ATI stock before I got mine, but the wood looks so good on this I can't make myself change it. I also did a polish job on the trigger group, really came alive after that.Overall very happy with my new 10/22 once i did a few small things to it. It doesn't like Thunderbolt ammo, CCi runs like a hot knife through butter.Originally posted by FastFingerWe are a dynamic community that reflects society at large. 2007 and newer. You have 2 of the good ones.
The last 10/22 I bought was a 25 y/o 10/22 for $200 in almost unfired condition..... and i don't regret it 1 bit. The metal ones are going up in value and are snatched up quickly in San Diego for a premium.Last edited by trob; 11-25-2009, 10:23 PM.Comment

And for the record, the new ones function fine. You just may have to do a couple things to fix what the factory slacked on.
Most guys switch out their barrels anyways, so that takes care of the barrel band and painted barrel. And you can polish the internals and clean up any burrs yourself and it will function/ look great.
A lot of guys are stripping the receiver paint and polishing the outside which gives it a great stainless look.
So theres lots of fun stuff you can do to the new ones and it will be good to go.
You made a good choice.Comment

Yeah I bought a 10/22 last year. The rear sights broke (cheap plastic) and I've had problems with the receiver in my 10/22. Bolt stripped off all the paint. Kinda sucks does anyone have any suggestions for the receiver?Batteries die...IRON LASTS FOREVER!!!Comment

Yes strip it all the way down and re paint it or strip it and leave it in its brushed aluminum look and have it clear powder coated....sigpic

I just paid 287 out the door for mine, I haven't got to shoot it yet, so hopefully I don't have any problems. The cool thing about a 10/22 is that there are so many parts, if you don't like any of them you can just go get another. Plus I just got some 22 at big5 and paid 24.99 for 555 rounds of winchester. much better than shootin the .40. My 2nd gun so far and I'll be adding more ASAP.Comment

Just a reply to your post here ^^^ You don't need to be expert in the slightest to see the differences in the new from the old. You offered up that you had two of them in an earlier post, you said nothing about mods... I was just giving you a way to see the diffs. Sorry you feel you need only expert advise, if that is the case them I would say this is the wrong place to post a question.........sigpic
