D22U's have the proper barrel twist rate (1/16 vs. 1/7 or 1/9) for .22lr. I also hear conversion kits foul up .223 uppers pretty bad.

Check out the tactical solutions uppers. Made specifically for a .22 and nothing else. 1:16 twist correct for most .22lr rounds, and heard nothing but good things about them.Comment

How long did it take from the time you ordered till it reached your door?Got my TacSol M4 upper from Gun Kings. Currently on sale for $549 (comes w/ one mag and free shipping): http://www.gunkings.com/index.php?ma...2dqu45762f5le0
I own a Spikes ST-22.... Very accurate(Lothar Walther barrel)! I can't compare to others as this is the only one I've shot. Haven't had issues with upper...working out some kinks in the FCG.
I'm starting to want to build another ar22 after reading this thread...this one would be a tacsol.

I'm still lovin' my Spike's with the Lothar Walther barrel. Very accurate--sub-MOA with the higher-end Eley, SK Standard Plus, and Wolf Extra Match ammo. This rifle gets shot more than all my others put together, and I definitely shoot my 5.56ers. MidwayUSA is loving me for all the match-grade .22LR ammo I buy.
A word of caution: my particular Spike's absolutely won't feed CCI Mini Mags or Remington Golden Bullets. They get jammed during the feeding process on every round. And considering that Federal bulk pack, which is highly-recommended for Spike's, is scarce as hens' teeth, you might want to get a M1S or TacSol instead.
For hyper-accurate stuff, consider Compass Lake Engineering.Last edited by dchang0; 09-12-2009, 5:46 PM.Comment

I had a Spike's upper. It FTF'd badly, had to send it back to Spike's so Tom could fix it. When returned, it worked perfectly with Federal bulk, but not so well on anything else. Spike's customer service is outstanding.
Tried a Ciener conversion in a DPMS 16" heavy barreled upper. It wasn't quite as accurate as the Spike's (2 1/2" @ 50 yards vs. 2" for the Spike's), but still held 4-5" groups at 100 yards with an inexpensive Bushnell Banner scope. It works well with Fed Bulk, Remington Golden Bullets, CCI and Winchester Bulk.
Kept the Ciener/DPMS, sold the Spike's. The adapted upper's accuracy is good enough for use as an inexpensive trainer and it allows me to reinstall the 5.56 bolt carrier group if needed. If I were interested in maximum accuracy, I would have kept the Spike's and lived with its ammo pickiness.I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!Comment

Spikes vs. TacSol, Round One: Tie.
Rich was kicking my butt every which way til I finally figured out the proper hold for that damned 100 yd. chicken. Then I tied the score H-O-R to H-O-R right before the final line break. We probably could have gone at it for another half an hour w/o someone prevailing.
(I had another three FTF's using the notched RRA hammer. The TacSol rounded hammer didn't arrive in time for Round One. Should be here by Round Two. IIRC, the Spikes ran 100%.)
Bottom line: Both rifles are scary accurate if the shooter does his part. We were hitting 4" swingers at 100 yds. w/ relative ease.sigpicComment
