I disagree. Plastic is easily broken in a non normal situation, such as dropping, running it over and such. Pin Holes and such will wear out, especially the Hammer pins and such.

Plastic is easily gouged. Plastic in a cold environment could literally snap in half pretty easily is a mishap. Lay the plastic SW across a log for instance at a angle, step on it, fall on it and you could likely snap the stock right off the receiver..None of this may happen. But I like that those possibilitys do not exist with aluminum nearly as much, if at all.

Many out there have broken the stocks off Plum Crazy AR plastic lowers, snapping the rear of the receivers off.

Worth the extra dough to me for aluminum anyway. Maybe to others it is not. That is OK too. Great there are cheaper alternatives out there to get everyone shooting. That is the most important I guess..

I do have to confess. I forgot I do have a plastic AR..But it is a Crosman DPMS full auto BB Gun. Wish it was metal though,LOL..Still alot of fun though.

The military trainers might have more accuracy potential but the main problem is the sights, or more accurately their lack of scopes combined with my (poor) eyesight. At my age it is much easier to shoot well with a scope compared to iron sights. The Harrington & Richardson M12 is the heaviest (11 lb).

Of the others the Ithaca X5 Lightning is the most accurate and fun to shoot (when it is feeding reliably). It is also the prettiest. It is also the most jam-prone/picky about ammunition brand/type. It might be because of its tube magazine. The Marlin 60 was also somewhat jam-prone until I adjusted the ejector wire on my Marlin 60 per this post https://www.rimfirecentral.com/forum...d.php?t=388240 and it helped a lot.

When I introduce new shooters to shooting I start them out with .22LR handguns. After the handguns I introduce them to rifles first with the CZ 452 Scout, then the RPRR, then the 10/22, then the M&P 15-22. They usually like the 10/22 the most.

Thanks for sharing and thanks for asking k1dude. Was wondering the same thing.

I build mine with a CMMG kit and CMMG lower, custom barrel all the fancy parts, spent a ton on it. In my opinion the S&W mp22 is a pile, it just feels cheap. To do it again I would buy a Tippman. All my buddies got them, they run great and are relatively inexpensive. A great value for what you get.

The Tippmann Arms M4-22 is a premium .22LR tactical rimfire rifle with an all aluminum receiver and all the features of a true M4.

As a kid TRAINER, it's ideal for that.

But since there's NO kick to a 5.56, as soon as they're mature enough to handle it, I'd move them to the real deal.

I would also buy whatever was on sale at my local chain store back when .22LR was available and cheap, and I'm sure glad I did. I have been through enough ammo shortages in the past that when it is in the stores I bought whatever was on sale. When I take new shooters out I use only CCI Standard Velocity in the rifles. For handgun shooting I grab an assortment out of my stash.
Favorite high velocity ammo? Or do you shoot that? My rifles seem to love federal Automatch for some reason. Maybe they feel bad for my wallet?

Has anyone with a dedicated CMMG BCG upper run into trouble with particular hammers? Their website mentions using rounded-style hammers over flat hammers.

TacSol recommended a full hammer, over a notched hammer, when I built mine. At the time, I had a complete Aero lower (full hammer), and a complete Colt 6920 lower (notched hammer), so that made the choice simple. I've never had a hiccup with the Aero lower.

Since .22's are finicky to start with (rimfires always are), go with what CMMG recommends.

Similar requirement for the Nordic dedicated 22lr. This is a common.

I have not encountered problems with either hammer style. But have read of those that have over on the ARFCOM forum.

Alot of cool Firearms in this thread.

The S&W AR M&P 22 seems like a nice rifle.

On the S&W is the muzzle threaded so you can use other muzzle devices?

                            Reliability?
I bought a complete S&W M&P15-22 for less than you could build a conversion upper for.
Smith mags are inexpensive and easy to find.
It eats anything you put in the mag, even if you pour 5 different kinds of ammo into a box and load them randomly into the mag and it runs them all flawlessly.
I use my 15-22 to use up ammo that my other 22's won't run reliably.
It even works with the ammo that you pick up off the ground after it misfired or jammed in other guns.
There are threaded and non-threaded models so buy according to what you want.

Agreed. I've only ever experienced problems when swapping to triggers with lighter hammer springs. Put the GI one in and problem solved.

I've put the nastiest of dirty ammo that I could find through it including old, old Rem thunderbolt. She ate them all.

Thanks for all the advice and thoughts.

I ended up ordering a CMMG 9" pistol upper to put on a pistol lower with a brace.

                                Just over $500

I'll probably put a red dot on it, as I don't see shooting at any targets over 100 yards.

I'll post some pics when it arrives. I checked the lower I intend to use, and confirmed it has a rounded hammer, so that shouldn't be an issue.
                                Poke'm with a stick!
