      Importing hi-caps is a felony, selling hi-caps is a felony, manufacture of hi-caps is a felony...usage of hi-caps is NOT a felony.

So if your friend sends you hi-cap mags you've just imported a hi-cap. If you use a rebuild kit to build a new hi-cap mag you have just manufactured a hi-cap mag.

And as an FYI, I like others here, quite typically use our legally obtained hi-cap mags at ranges all the time. And I've never been hassled even as the range officers have inspected my weapons and/or ammo depending where I was at.

You should read up a little more on the laws if you are unsure of yourself. I don't know the specific law for the mags, but it's been posted here many times and you can probably search for it.

I bought mine at a swap meet from some greasy old hag. She broke the law when she sold em, but I broke NO LAW when I bought them, nor now when I use them. So there.

All of mine were purchased in the 80's and therefore have red followers. 4 of my mags were of the smoked/clear variety; that's why you can see the followers clearly.

date stamp on the mags (read that usually they have the year they were made stamped onto most magazines.)

or the more iffy no markings. as i have read, the older magazines don't have any stamping on them, but some new ones do the same so that isn't a surefire way to make sure its pre-ban.

Burden of proof is up to the DA from what I've read here. For example, I have 4-5 hi-cap 10/22 mags from pre 2000..., no receipts or anything cuz they were bought at gun shows for cash and at the time there was no reason to keep receipts.. there's almost 0 chance that the DA would be able to prove that I didn't have these mags pre-ban. Since my usage wouldn't be breaking the law there's no issue.

Now since Erik bought his at a swap meet, I hope he at least remembers which one or around what time... because if the police ask him and he can't remember a rough time line and/or gives swap meets that never existed....that may cause his story to fall apart which may not end well.

As a side note, I'm not a lawyer and am only responding with information that I've gathered from being on this site for the past year.

That could work if the guy isn't 18 or something Still would be a hassle in my opinion Seems like everyone except me has "a lawyer" they can call

I have a Ramline 30, a Ramline 50, and an Eaton 25 from my youth. Last I tried to use them they would not feed very well, seems the springs are a bit weak. I did lube them but no change. Ironically this morning I broke them open (small screwdriver starting at the bottom and slowly and gently working my way up) and will soak them to clean them. Lube and try again. But if I could get some replacement springs, I'd be in better shape I imagine...

"they both leave piles of little half moons of shaved lead"

I usually put a slight champher at the chamber mouth to reduce this problem. Some barrels come with very sharp and square-edged chamber mouths that tend to scrape and gouge the feeding rounds, especially with aftermarket magazines. I do this with all my 10/22 barrels using a countersink tool and hand pressure only. Don't take much off, just break the sharp edge.
