Id get one of the Marlins. I've had a Ruger 1022 since.2012 and I just can't get the thing to be reliable.

I think Turners had a 10/22 with an camo stock in their last Christmas sale for a really good price. At the price I was tempted to add one to a stripped lower DROS I was doing but I already have two 10/22 target models.

I own a 10/22 and a Model 60. if you are leaving it stock, I would by a Model 60. I haven't found a 10/22 yet that is accurate as my Model 60 is. I actually own 3 model 60's and two 10/22's. All three of my Model 60's out shoot the 10/22 straight out of the box.

A lot depends on what you're going to do with it. I use mine for competitions like steel challenge and NSSF rimfire challenge. In that use, a removable magazine is really useful.

I also have a 10/22, SIG 552, NC22lr, Marlin XT-22 & prefer the Marlin 60 as is, right out of the box.

Also consider the Thompson Center TCR22. Take 10/22 mags and most aftermarket parts. For the price it's better than a stock 10/22

I think .22 rifles are like ice cream and sex. Everyone has their own idea of what is good. I have had a basic wood stock 10/22 for years and it has been great for doing a little plinking and teaching the wife to shoot.

I have no problems with it at all.

Remington 552 speedmaster. All kinds of fun for short/long/LR loadings.

I've a 10/22 from my dad - it's highly customized.

I recently found the original parts and an extra barrel so last year I bought parts and built two 10/22 - the cost was about the same as a new rifle.

One I built is basically stock except for the reciever has integrated scope rail. It's been very reliable and a decent shooter but it's a bit heavy.

The other one is all tacticool built for my son. Even with a bull barrel it's very lightweight and an excellent shooter.

I rebuilt my dads and added a Lil Crow lug and glass bedded the action. A threaded barrel and suppressor with light make it a night time predator assassin. It shoots tiny groups.

All three rifles get shot a lot (we have a rifle range in the backyard) and not a single malfunction.

The original "Lego" rifle. Every home should have one.

If anyone has any problems with function or accuracy there is likely an easy fix.

If you’re really going to keep it stock, then get a Browning SA-22.
