Anyone throw a good red dot on this gun? I was thinking of putting one of those Bushnell TRS-25s on one but I'm not sure if it will just mount up. I already have a 10/22 with tech sights but I want a gun with a scope or red-dot. Seems like a good buy. They are on sale right now at big 5.

Ok. If you are talking about the Barska reflex do not do it.Anyone throw a good red dot on this gun? I had one installed on my MP15-22 for about 3 weeks, and it become more and more off target, the red dot would turn off for no reason. The top part become so loose (with nothing to make it tight again) so I took it back and got a centerpoint red dot from Walmart. So far, so good. 2 weeks, 1100 rounds still holding zero for the most part. Little adjustment up (about 1/2-3/4 inches and 1/2" right) today. But that may just be a difference in how my cheek rested on the stock. Paralax (spelling) is not the best on the centerpoint, but for $50 I am not going to complain. So far, best $50 I have spent.NRA Life Member

I read the first couple pages and didn't read much on it. What can you feed through the 795? I don't want to buy it and then HAVE to run CCI mini mags through it or anything. Does some bulk ammo work?Comment

I use Federal bulk, and it works great. Winchester bulk is okay, but the Remington golden bullet is crap, DO NOT BUY IT.Never initiate force against another. That should be the underlying principle of your life. But should someone do violence to you, retaliate without hesitation, without reservation, without quarter, until you are sure that he will never wish to harm - or never be capable of harming - you or yours again.

I bought a $15 Tasco from Wally World. Very good scope holds zero I've run 600 rounds without issue. It is very clear, it even comes with rings, mounts right up. $99 for the rifle $15 for the scope and I've got a little tack driver.Anyone throw a good red dot on this gun? Marlin 795, on sale at Big 5, was my first firearm (first I owned, I mean), and I love it.
Cheap as heck, and quite accurate bone stock. Hell, I haven't even done anything to it other than add a GI Web sling to it and buy 3 extra 10 rounders. No real need to accessorize it, though plenty of options exist should you desire to. I don't. Take that, 10/22! You and your accessories aren't getting my money!
Recoil is...fun, shall we say? For a .22, at least. Very reliable--never had a single failure of any kind. Also, *relatively* painless to strip and clean.
It enjoys CCI Minimags, as well as the Winchester 333**.
So, I have found it to enjoy ammunition with a Muzzle Velocity of 1200-1300FPS, with perfect function w/o any evident buffer damage.
As I said, very accurate for a stock .22, but the irons are awful. Also, the optics rail on mine seems to be slightly off-center/tilted, and I have read that this is a somewhat common problem.
I also enjoy the last-shot hold-open feature. I do not want to dry fire it, and this prevents such an accidental occurrence!
And for such a low price, and made in USA, you'd be a communist NOT to buy it!
**NOTE: the 333 ammo seems to be poor quality--it works quite well, but with less accuracy (consistently large grouping haha) than the CCI, and it deposits what appears to be unburnt powder in the trigger pack.**This business will get out of control. It will get out of control and we'll be lucky to live through it.Comment

Dom, that is one of the BEST! rifles ever. Get the GI sling, dye it pink and go to an Appleseed. Give me enough notice and I will go with you. You wont regret it. Oh and Appleseeds are free for women

It is? Cool! And yeah I might just dye it myself. I have searched all over the net and did not find a sling in the color I liked.
Which one exactly is the GI sling?Comment

There is a GI sling attached to the rifle in your avatar
It's the cloth web Olive Drab sling first issued with the M1 Garand rifle. It was also used on the M14 rifle and is also correct for Viet Nam era M16 rifles. A lot of the ones you see today are reproductions made exactly the same way."All bad precedents began as justifiable measures." Julius CaesarComment

Ooooh so like I can find it online or at the gun shows right? Where did you get that one? There is a GI sling attached to the rifle in your avatar

By the by ... I have a grocery list of questions about this baby now. And this thread is so big I just get all the more confused, excited, and overwhelmed.

Thanks Izzy that seems like good logic, and is the reason I wanted to ask before doing damage that would be counter productive.Cleaning from the front of the barrel is not recommended without a bore guide. You risk damaging the crown. I just use the boresnake or a Patch Worm from the receiver end on my Marlin 60 (same action) to be safe. Its a fact that more .22s have been worn out by cleaning than shooting. Most folks only clean when the accuracy falls off. Of course every gun can be different, especially .22s. I have a Savage that wants to be cleaned about every 500 rounds and a Zastava Z5 that doesn't seem to care either way.
GREAT news on the BabyUpla, though I am still searching for someplace that shows they have it in stock.
If anyone has purchased one recently, please share with me where you found it!I don't know how political I am, I don't get into all that crap....I just love freedom...
