My hat is off to those who put bull barrels on 795's, make 989M2's out of Model 70's, etc. :bthumb: I am beginning a project to convert a Model 60 into a 989G. As many of you already know, the 989 was a walnut-stocked, clip-fed semi-auto with 22-inch barrel which was made back in the 60's. The...

    I can't tell you how bad I want a 7000T

    Marlin 60
    Designed 1960
    Number built over 11 million

    Ruger 10/22

    Number built over 5 million

Yea its wikipedia so take it with a grain of salt...
Well d@mn... There go my Davie-Boone quick-change barrel fantasies... The 7000s are awesome rifles it seems BUT my LGS could not find any in his distribution channels; he only knew of a local guy selling but had a really slick setup like what you posted for around $350ish. The Wiki numbers seem a little low for the 10/22... Hmmm... Oh well.

There where 2 7000 models the T had the red white and blue stock with the LOP adjustment and the front bipod adapter. The regular 7000 just had a black synthetic stock. 350 is about right for a T model from what I have seen.

Thanks Chaos...That JSP contraption is well thought out. But I think Im going to end up a babylula, just so it can have a big brother that loads my .45 with ease. Ill post on here if I run into anything else.

Btw. if you didnt know already and for anyone else in IE/Riverside area, theres Magnum Range On Sampson St. Its not the best looking one but the staff there is all right in my books. $17 per lane, per person. They let you shoot the 795, longest is 50yrd, not bad Id say. Quick therapy is what it is..

Marlin 795 gang : I drove to L.A. today and did some plinking. I was slightly surprised my rifle hates Wally World Winchester Bulk with a passion / 36 grain / you know the stuff.

I shot 100 rds of Winchester and had a FTF, FTE every time I shot that brand. Holy moly! This is stuff that Marlin has emphasized to customers but I'm only human. haha.

The Remington Thunderbolt 22LR was decent though dirty.

The Blazer bulk 22LR ran likewise.

The CCI Mini Mags ruled the day of course !

            RBA

ps. Thankfully, I brought my Western wheel gun along and it's like " Mikey " in the Life commercials from the early 80's. It'll eat anything !

            Stay away from value bulk!

We used the Remington Thunderbolts for the Sea Cadet training and it was ok at best; maybe 5 FTE/FTF/FTFire per 100 or so and good god it was dirty... There was practically as much time cleaning rifles as using them!

And MiniMags are as always; love those things.

I'll pay more for the MiniMags any day than deal with bulk stuff. They're clean, for 22lr, accurate, and reliable. Quality worth the extra cost.

Try the Federal Bulk from Wally World, mine eats that stuff up all day.

                      Guten Tag DasBoost,

How was that Sea Cadet training? I hope you guys enjoyed it. The Remington Thunderbolt is very cheap and is good for very basic distances.

I did spend a lot of time cleaning that gun last night. haha. Oh well, time spent with the Marlin is time well spent. Live and Learn.

We all know by now that a rifle like the 795 deserves the best. It deserves CCI Mini Mags !

                      RBA

btw, remember that box of CCI Stingers that I bought for the 795? Since then, ofc. I've learned that those rounds are out of bounds for the Marlin. However, they go real nice in a wheel gun if you don't mind me repeating myself. haha.

The Marlin upgraded sight is an OEM piece. It is shorter than the ladder setup and fits into the original dovetail and is held in place with a small screw for pressure as there is no hole to sink it into.

Windage adjustment is accomplished by sliding the small dovetail windage unit instead of the whole sight like the original; there are also windage hashes painted onto the sight body so you have a precise marker for shooting different weights/types of ammo.

Elevation is adjusted by the small screw second closest to the shooter, not the one with the ring around it(that I have no idea about what it's function is... ) and you either raise or lower it by using a small screwdriver; very simple and can allow for precise adjustment. Lefty-Loosey= POI Raised, Righty-Tighty= POI Lowered.

Overall, it is a great improvement for $10 & change and improves the sight picture as the white windage hashes help break up the sea of black of the sight, barrel, and front blade compared to the older setup.

Marlin OEM Rear Sight: Numrich; Available in quantity.

DIP Trigger/Triggerguard Kit: Joe Bob Outfitters; Currently out of stock but on order.

Rimfire Technologies Charging Handle: RT; In Stock/Available

All in all, I got the rifle for $180 OTD and have a little less than that in modifications. Has it been an utter value? That's a relative term and depends on the shooter; I've spent almost as much on mods as I have the rifle, but am nowhere near 10/22 territory. Was it great out of the box before the modifications? Yes. Is it even better now in my eyes and much better suited towards me? YES.

Things to do: The only other improvement I want is the front sight; the machined metal is tough to see and I may either paint it with a neon color or find a small gold bead a la 10/22 or shotgun and glue/attach that to the blade. A sling as well; after those two things, I am happy and done with adding parts to it and will just shoot the ever-loving s**t out of it. If I can shoot one with Tech Sights, I will decide then if it is worth it; TSs are great on my Mini but I don't know if the sights that are 33%-50% of the rifle's cost (depending on how much you pay for the rifle) are worth it compared to the $10 OEM piece.
                        Danke, DasBoost.

You definitely saved v. our counterparts @10/22.

Thanks for sharing these pictures. Is there any chance you could take photo of the new sight picture looking downrange?

The training was great! I believe all of the cadets 'qualified' when shooting the AQTs and all but a few qualified for the NRA Smallbore Marksmanship badge. The Remington bulk did work ok, but it was still a pain.

RE: The CCI Stingers, I believe Marlin doesn't recommend it due to the microgroove rifling in the barrel.

I've been looking into 22lr pistols and browsing the various semis and revolvers.

I'm at work now, but I will try and get some pictures tonight. Hopefully I can get to the range next week and dial the new sights in and give impressions when there's actually something heading downrange towards a target instead of me at the coffee table.

Anything else, just let me know.

Per RBA's request, here are some quick shots of the OEM Marlin sight, looking down the sight. I apologize for the pics as I was using a Point & Shoot and not my normal DSLR; the lighting didn't help either.

That being said, here are the pics:

For some reason, I seem to have a better peripheral view with this new sight compared to the original sight though it is only a little narrower than the original, far less narrower than I originally thought. I don't know if it is just me or what, but if anyone else purchases this unit, let me know.

As always, the front sight blade needs to be painted or a bead attached to it; the machined finish just doesn't allow for a good sight picture/alignment.
