It warms my heart to see all the Marlin love here.

I've had both. And when it comes to handguns I am definitely a Ruger fanboy. But when it comes to rifles, Marlin is where my heart lies.

The 10/22 is the Glock of the 22 rifle market.

The Marlin 60 is the 1911.

I've had my 60 since 1987, and I've put literally tens of thousands of rounds through it. The microgroove barrel is nearly shot out but it still outshoots my stepson's 10/22. It went almost 20 years with out a full cleaning (just a brush/wet patch/dry patch cleaning on the rare occasion). I finally tore it down last year and gave it a thorough cleaning. I replaced the buffer, lifter, put a DIP trigger/guard, replaced the springs with a kit from MCARBO, and installed some Williams Fire Sights (my eyes aren't as good as they used to be). All in all I put about $150 into it.

She shoots better now than she ever did, even with the worn barrel. Sure I could have picked up a new 60 for that much money (on sale), and I still might. But this old gal and I have been through alot and I'll never get rid of her. Now my 11 year old son is shooting it, and loves it. It'll be his as soon as he turns 18, and then hopefully someday it will be his son or daughter's first rifle.
I like my ammo like I like my women, cheap and dirty!

So far with the non sale price 795 and various upgrades I think I've got $400 into the rifle, and that's close to all I could do. I have not upgraded the stock to a Boyd's, that could add $100. Otherwise it's perfect for use at my local 50' pistol caliber only range. That includes the baby mag lula.

If your goal is to get as many rounds downrange as quickly as possible, then a model 60 with 18 round capacity and a speedy loader (or several) preloaded is another good option.

Personally I like the rest period I get reloading the magazines (5 at a time). If I see them on sale again I might buy 4 more mags for a total of 10.

I say split the difference and get the 795.

          I have a model 60, 795 and a 10/22.
All good choices, go handle each one, test out the bolt release's. 10/22 is a lil weird. Look at the sights, I personnelly can't see the Ruger sight very well, the bronze dot blends into the background, Easily upgraded though.

M60 is a different with the tube, but probably my favorite. Either way you'll enjoy your purchase, you really can't go wrong.

Like them both but would rather buy a nice older used one than a new one because the new ones have plastic parts which I don't like.

In a SHTF situation I'd rather have a 10/22 because you can carry multiple magazines with you and reload quickly.

apples vs apples both ok guns. More goodies available for the 10-22. Best bet is an old 10-22 - at least 5 years but if you find one with a metal trigger group you'll never look back. Still have my Marlin but sold all 3 of my early 10-22s. I did buy a wood stock 50th aniv one which went against my "buy no Rugers built after Bills death" rule but it was a steal at $100 with 5 mags I couldn't pass it up.

i have 4 10/22s and one marlin 60 the marlin seems like it has weaker bits inside and the plasticbits not as good as rugers plastic bits although later on the marlin 60 is going to be the only way to shoot more than 11 times in a row

Congrats. Another advantage the model 60 has over the 10/22 is that the model 60 has a last shot bolt hold open.

I have both the Marlin 60 (1970's) and the Ruger 10/22 (1980's). The Marlin is more accurate. There are more add-ons available for the 10/22. I had some 50 round magazines, but those will be illegal soon.

The Model 60 is tube fed. You have to tilt the gun up, to load it. That method isn't very range friendly. The 10/22 is magazine fed: Remove the magazine, unload the chamber, and the gun is empty. It is a pain to unload the Marlin tube magazine.

I just pull the trigger a few times. For a ghetto quick load method, I've seen people use straws preloaded with ammo. One side is stapled or glued, and the other side is just pinched I think. I didn't get a close look. Looked like they had to use the Big Gulp size straws.

Settle down, folks. The new "ghost gun" regulations probably don't do what you think they do.

buy both. I own both, but shoot my 10/22 more. its a little easier to clean with the extra space from the mag well, and a little quicker to load at the range when you have extra mags to load up. Both are great guns though, and you couldn't convince me to sell either of em.
