I have a Marlin 60 and love it. Simple .22 with no tactical options. Nice to be able to load more than 10 rounds as well. Good price too.

I own 3 Marlin Model 60's. No magazines to worry about losing. More accurate out of the box than a Ruger, and it holds 4 more rounds than the Ruger. Extra Ruger Mags are going to cost you too. The speed loader for the tube fed magazines are awesome.

Seen hundreds of both at Appleseed.

Fielder's choice. Shoulder both and see what feels right.

Either one will need upgraded sights and a proper sling to reach its potential as a training rifle. This is easy to do, but plan for it.

Marlins also have a bolt hold open feature that the 10/22 doesn't have (last time I checked)

Another vote for the Marlin 60. I've been wanting to buy a 10/22 for some time now. But then after a range trip with the 60 I always end up asking myself why do I want a 10/22? As others have said, the 60 is more accurate & I love not having to deal with magazines. Mine is one of the older models that has a mag tube as long as the barrel so it can hold 18 or 19 rounds iirc. I'll eventually get a 10/22 if only to play around with customizing it. But, I'm in no hurry.

Like what was posted above, the Marlin 60 is stupid accurate out of the box. I bought one on sale at Turner's a few years ago and it almost shoots as well as my full custom, Fedderson barreled, 10_22. Find a decent, inexpensive, scope for it and you're good to go for around $200. Holds 14 rounds too.

I've shot several Marlin 60's, fun .22 but just doesn't do it for me. I love 10/22's and love upgrading them. Tube feds are cool, but I went with a Henry

I have had both for over 30 years and my recommendation is: Get both.

If you get the 10/22, try and get an older one with more metal parts. The current models are super plasticky.

I have a Marlin 60. Have had it for over 40 years. Bought it at the local KMart for $39.95 brand new and that included a 4x scope. Still have it. As previous posters have said, it's very accurate right out of the box. I've never had a problem with it and wouldn't hesitate to get another'ne if the need arises. Get the 60--you won't be disappointed.

60 is more accurate out of the box. Tube mag.

10/22 has a bajillion mods available. Detachable mags.

Skip all these inexpensive rifles and get a Browning 22BAR

I just bought my first 22 this morning, a marlin 60. I had posted a similar thread to this a while back. Heard pretty much the same responses from people that you're seeing here - 10/22 if you like modding, marlin 60 if you just want to shoot it out of the box. If I ever want some crazy-custom modded expensive 22 build, I'll get a 10/22 then. Besides, I have plenty of other non-rimfire rifles for doing that. So for me, right now I just wanted something I can pick up from the gun store and shoot some paper and squirrels, and I think the 60 fits that bill perfectly.
Settle down, folks. The new "ghost gun" regulations probably don't do what you think they do.

The 60 is more accurate out of the box, but comparatively the Ruger is self cleaning. I've never been able to get 1,000 rounds thru any of my 60's without disassembly and thorough cleaning, where I have seem many 10/22's with untold thousands of rounds with no internal cleaning whatsoever.

I love my 60's and choose them first over a 10/22 ... but obviously I have nothing against taking a tricky gun apart and cleaning it.

In any Marlin 60 vs Ruger 10/22 debate the third candidate should also be considered: the Remington 597

I also have both and cast another vote for the Marlin. No mags to leave behind and it's very accurate.
It takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.
