Settle down, folks. The new "ghost gun" regulations probably don't do what you think they do.

I've had both for 30+ years. The Marlin was my very first gun ever. Pretty much after I got the 10/22 I stopped shooting the Marlin. I like the ability to change magazines. I also like the versatility of being able to accessorize it with different stocks, handguards, etc. Since I just plink with both the difference in accuracy was never an issue. (but to be honest I almost never shoot the 10/22 these days. If I shoot .22 it's usually an STG-44 - a hell of a lot heavier, but looks and feels so cool!).

If you get the 10/22, try and get an older one with more metal parts. The current models are super plasticky.

You can get the Model 60 for under $100 on Gun Broker if you wait a bit. Last month an old style Model 60 with the original 4x Glenfield scope went for $75. Be prepared to pay more for a pre warning 10/22 with the metal butt plate and real walnut stock. I found one for $250 OTD at the Ventura show 5 years ago. Both guns have their pluses and minuses.

I bought a Marlin model 60 in the mid-80's - love it and still have it.

My first rifle was a Marlin 60. I'll take the Marlin 60 every time. 18+1 in the chamber 19 shots the target never had a chance. Even my wife can shoot the wing off a gnat with it.

Marlin 60, more accurate than 10/22, perfect all day plinker, own both, but prefer the marlin. Bought two for my grandsons just last year to teach them about shooting and gun safety.

Get the Marlin, either 60 or 795.

                    This all day long.

If you want to trick it out, go Ruger.

Man that is one sexy ruger. Can you give a parts breakdown? What red dot is that?

I don't know why exactly, but I just don't "get" putting hundreds-to-thousands of dollars into a 22lr precision build. can someone explain it to me? No matter how much you put into it, it's still only good for maybe 150yds right? I must be missing something. Not bagging on people who do it, I just legitimately want to know why - maybe I can be talked into doing something similar

^ That is a nice looking rifle though

People like nice things. A ruger is no different.

I had both model 60 and 10/22, but sold both and kept Marlin 795.

I shot all of them with iron sights so my perspective is from that angle.

Accuracy: Ruger had better sights out of the box and I shot more accurately with it. With aftermarket sights such as Tech Sights, Model 60 would probably fare better than stock sights.

Weight: 10/22 is lighter. Tiring shooting the Marlin off hand.

Round capacity: Model 60 holds more. And with a Spee-D loader, loading is a cinch. I didn't like loading the 10/22 mags. Reason I got rid of it.

Maintenance: Both are easy to take down and clean.

Reliability: 10/22 was more reliable for me. After shooting about 100 rounds, Model 60's feed ramp gets dirty and sticky and causes failures to feed. Quick brush to the feed ramp at the range takes care of the problem, but I got rid of it, because I didn't feel like doing it. And also the weight.

                            Customization: More aftermarket for 10/22.

Cost: Model 60 is less expensive

Ya; And why does my wife spend so much on shoes? I get hundreds of miles out of a pair of boots, but her mileage is a few hundred yards at best.

                                lol

I know why we spend lots of money on guns, I don't need an explanation there... was just curious why 22lr and not something more accurate/powerful/etc. Although I guess if you've already got enough of those then why not move on to 22
