do you even foresee yourself reasonably shooting even half of that any time soon? if everyone is stocking ammo like this would that explain why there is still a 22 shortage? not attacking you, just saying. i don't understand why people do this with 22 but nearly as much with other calibers.

in b4 butthurt u have no ammo - i have enough for a while but i don't foresee needing ~10k rounds. if it were you trying to locate all of the ammo of a specific lot of high end ammo for a particular gun, i get it, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Without knowing what's in the ammo can, I see less than 10K rounds there.

Half of that is less than 5K, it's not hard at all to shoot 500-1K rounds in a session at the range, especially now that my wife is going with me more often. I usually don't shoot more than 100-200 each of a couple of centerfire cartridges, but we blow through the .22 just plinking.

That's a decent little pile, but it ain't no stockpile.

OP, I hope your gun likes those Automatch more then my guns do.

O yes, one of the first things i bought. I hate that loader, it makes the darn mark eat ammo even faster! Lol.

Yes so far, it seems rugers arent picky about what they eat. Patterns/groups are better with subsonic ammo. I have not had issues with any ammo so far, only some of the subs, i have to cycle manually. No big, just trying out different ammo.

I got some from rawhp, and have been happily plinking away with the federal ammo.

Thanks to CG! Scored some calibri primer fired 20 grain'rs. Wow so quite, less noise than my Gamo Bone collector air rifle. Funny, plinking in the back yard and it seems all the squirrels and crows have disappeared?

doesn't seem like 2 big of a stash, with him having a family that shoots it makes sense, i think the simple fact that you cant reload 22, him having 2 or more guns and more than one shooter in the house, is a reason to have atleast 10k rounds min.

Now i just bought a 10/22 that ate up 500 rounds on the first day. No i dont sit and blow shot after shot. I do take my time, goal is to see if i can shoot the same holes. That mark will shoot amazing groups out to 25 yards.

I am patiently waiting for my trigger to return for the 10/22. I expect that when that trigger shows up, another 500 will go down range.

I also have a wife, and three kids, 24, 21, 19 that love shooting as much as i do. Now do the math, 5 x 500 = 2500 round day if spent with the family. Add the 9mm, 40, 556/223 and 7.62x39 and yes we go through ammo. Its all family fun, and keeps us together while teaching the kids how to defend themselves if need be.

Now is that hoarding? or causing shortages? I dont know, and all i know is that my kids are happy, and pops is too

I had to limit myself to 200 per range trip. That way, I'll have more ammo for the next trip. Because you never know when the next shipment will arrive.

I think the only real advantages of the .22 round are that it is available and cheap

i typically go through 50-100 rounds of .22 per trip if i even bring a 22. i don't shoot slowly either. im usually able to achieve and repeat what i set out to accomplish with those rounds too so i don't think it's me not practicing enough either. when i don't achieve/repeat goals, it's one of those atypical trips where i will go a bit over 100. and im not the super duper best shot either, so i don't think it's b/c i don't need to try, etc.

the only time i can recall going through more is 1 trip where i just wanted to dump the mags for the sake of doing so, and even then, i only went through about 200-250 rounds before it got boring dumping mags with rim fire and i pulled out center fire rounds.

again, not knocking you guys if you all get benefit out of shooting lots of 22 per trip, but since it seems like everyone is unanimously agreeing that all the extra shooting helps, i wonder if i'm missing something. also, if all of this is the case, why was there not a (or as much of a) 22 shortage in the past during all the other gun scares? i really hope the answer isn't flippers.

My first gun at 4 years old was a Daisy lever action BB gun. I remember I had to put the muzzle on the ground and lean on the lever to cock it. My second gun at 6 was Montgomery Wards 22 LR bolt action. I'd run around the farm plinking at all kinds of things; cans, pine cones, fruit, dirt clods, and the occasional gopher. I'd go through at least two little boxes of ammo, and that's with a single shot. No goal, except maybe to have fun. Of course in the process of having fun, I got to be a pretty good shot. So no, you're not missing the point, based on what you are trying the accomplish, but you may be trying to accomplish something different that what a lot of people shoot 22 LR for, to have fun first, and maybe improve on some skills, second, and for many the latter is part of the former. If you're not having fun, then why shoot it at all, especially if it's boring. There's no problem with that.

I too grew up shooting. Took off a few decades for wife, kids, work... travel sports. Past weekend was open range for members. I brought most of the toys. I went through the roster and left the ruger for last. To be honest, plinking is pretty fun. My ar, and ak are fun to shoot too, just my neighbors i feel for. The mini draco is LOUD and does through some flash.

Still cheaper to shoot the 22's. Owning 9, 40, 556, 762 the rimfire is still cheapest to shoot. I love my little 22
