Grats!
Your AR has an Eotech... when you get the 1-6x you can at least try it out in comparison to the Eotech.
From my person experience, and my personal shooting style, I switched from red dots to 1-4x scopes. The 1-6x will be my upgrade for the 1-4x Vortex Viper PST. Since you run a magnifier, you might actually appreciate a low power variable.
At the very least you can try both and see which one really does work best for you.ExtremeXComment

I havent ordered them yet, but im pretty sure I am going with....
AADMOUNT for the 5-20
LaRue SPR for the 1-6x
Discover LaRue precision rifles, mounts, triggers, and rifle components built in Texas for shooters who demand proven performance and precision.
Im want the SPUHR 1 peice mount really bad, but I dont think I am going to end up spending that type of coin. Their 2 peice rings are amazing, if I put it in a bolt gun I might end up using them.
Check out my 1 peice mount thread.
If you want to really save some money you might want to look at the Burris PERP.
I had the exact same LaRue in mind for the 1-6x and I've read good things about that ADDMOUNT. Truth be told, I need everything; shade, covers, etc. Any thoughts on the other goodies?
I bought within the hour of the sale going hot and even paid the extra $12 or so to upgrade to 3 day UPS just in case they limited the offer. I still haven't received mine though

I bought the sunshade only... ill get the lens caps when I feel like it. I haven't ordered the mounts yet either. I have other scopes, I don't really care when I actually get them. This hobby has made me a patient person.I had the exact same LaRue in mind for the 1-6x and I've read good things about that ADDMOUNT. Truth be told, I need everything; shade, covers, etc. Any thoughts on the other goodies?

The AADMOUNT and Larue mounts are really different animals in my opinion...
One is light, one is heavy
One is fixed, one is Quick Disconenct.
Ones build more around rock solid mounting, other provides speed and convenience of a QD but still mounts up well.
The bubble level is a big deal for me when it comes to scope leveling and shooting with hold over.
The SPUHR would be my answer for the 1-6x, but its just cost way too much. I don't have the ADDMOUNT in hand, not sure if it would add too much bulk on a 16" Recce rifle. I also have an ACOG TA31F with a Larue mount, I might end up with the Larue SPR for the 1-6 just so I can swap them whenever I want.
I love optics, I have more optics than rifles.Last edited by ExtremeX; 05-28-2012, 7:23 PM.ExtremeXComment

Oh yes, clearly different mounts with different purposes. I've had the LaRue quick detach in mind all along for the 1-6x just to swap it on/off different riffles..

Received my 5-20 in the mail today!
This scope will go on my 700 LTR and replace the Bushnell 3200 that I currently have mounted.
Question... Currently I have the Leupold PRW rings and 2-piece base. I'm just the weekend shooter and not into competing or anything like that. I know they are not Seekins, Badger, etc...but are the PRW rings good enough or should I look into upgrading?Comment

The PRW rings are not bad. I would just use them since you already have em. I am a little anal about scope mounting and crosshair leveling... I highly recommend using a torque wrench to get everything setup correctly.
How does the SWFA scope look? I want a quick review

Yup, got a torque wrench and the scope levels to make sure the scope isn't canted. I doubt I'll do it, but any thoughts on lapping the rings?SWEET!

As for a review, well i only played with it for a few minutes so can't really say much. Also, I'm just getting into higher end optics so I may not be the best person to write a review. But what I can say is that the glass seemed very clear, but like I said I'm no expert and didn't have any of my other scopes out to compare it to. There are 2 minor cons: 1) the turrets don't have a very positive click, but it's really not that bad. Way better than the turrets on my Bushnell, but not as good as my Accupoint. 2) the magnification ring is a little stiff and I kept turning the ocular lens adjustment instead of the magnification. I may get the SWFA switchview throwlever just to make life a bit easier.
Oh yeah, and there was a partial fingerprint on the objective lens. Not a big deal as it wiped right off, but I don't want fingerprints on my brand new optic.Comment

I wouldn't worry about lapping the rings... I have a set of PRW rings in 1" size and they seems to be good enough. Even clamping force is more important than just lapping so I would start there. If you ever start to encounter problems then it might be time to switch rings. For my 2 piece rings, I might use the Warne rings I already have in 30mm or try some Seekin or AADMOUNT rings.
Write up more about the scope when you have time. Im more curious about the overall build quality, tracking, optical clarity, and ease of use - low light performance and high magnification exit pupil.
In regards to leveling the crosshairs... I have a level of OCD with it. Im anal to the point ive bought tools specifically to level the crosshairs. I no longer trust the shim or bubble level on top of the turrets meathod. Even with more expensive scopes ive found the crosshair isn't always level with the body, and often times the turrent caps will level differently depending on what position of the dial they are on...
My method: I level the rifle using multiple small bubble level vials, then I use a self leveling laser level to level the crosshairs. Its near perfect as you can get.
I just took the image of google images just as an example.

I just read your post, I made a thread to compare both scopes.I have been reading a ton of mixed reviews on which has better glass. Can you look through both at max power at something far away like a sign or billboard and see if you can read the lettering through one better then the other. Really trying to justify the 1600+mounts+sunshade.
