This thread need some illustrations, so while we are on the subject of BP handguns, here are some:

The starter kits are cool for people who just want to test it out for a day, but if you want a serious kit then you're going to have to piece your own together.

If you have the money, I'd recommend a brass Treso flask with measuring spout, Treso or SliX-Shot nipples, Wonder Wads, and swaged lead balls from Hornady or some other reputable munitions company. I don't use a capper, just my fingers or a pair of tweezers are easier for me, and the tweezers are great for pulling out jammed caps. The flask with pre-measured spout is obviously handy because it's quicker and less messy than pouring the powder into a separate measure.

edit - I found a pic from a few weeks ago at Prado Shooting Park. Contrary to popular belief, you don't need a whole ton of stuff to efficiently shoot a bp revolver and have a ton of fun; just the basics here.

So now that several of us have gone down this path to Blackpowder shooting.
Maybe some suggestions from you experienced BP shooters regarding:

Powder and charges ( How many shots do you get out of a pound of BP?)
Pellets?
Bullets, I read these use .454 ball bullets
Percussion caps, I happen to have a couple containers of #11 caps will these work ok?
Cappers?
Powder flasks (wouldn't need if using the pellets)
Saw some discussion about changing the nipples
Cleaning suggestions
Any "needed' accessories?

I'll be at the Sportsmans Warehouse in Carson City tomorrow morning so I'll be looking to see what they have. May even get up to Reno, that's not decided yet though.

( Maybe I should take some spare 22lr ammo to sell in the parking lot to fund my new venture)

Back in the 1980s I bought a beautifully "Cased Set Navy Colt from EMF"
Had everything from pistol, mold, flask nice box. Never shot it and sold it to one of my customers when I was a 01 FFL. I think I paid less for that set then then what these M 1858 Remington's cost now!

Well, it refers to my agricultural hauling in the harvest season in the 1990s. But I've done flatbed work, 10 wheeler Dumps, Transit mixers, dry freight vans. Used to haul booze and wine from the Bay Area down to your neck of the woods twice a week. Also plowed snow for the DOT, graders, loaders etc.
That ag company I worked for back in the mid 1990s is the only employer that has given me in writing "We have position for you anytime you want it" letter. I was away from home 5-6 months a year so that's why I had to give up on the Ag stuff. I drove AG for Valley Farm Transport out of Dixon, CA. and really enjoyed it, went places in CA I never knew existed!
Did 10 years on ambulance as an EMT2, Driver, Driver Trainer. Now I just run life support ventilators in ICU!

Damn, that's a lot of variety right there lol. Out of all of the different freight you've hauled, what did you enjoy the most and why? I see you liked agriculture a lot but how is it compared to everything else? I'm still a newer driver (only 25-years-old) and so far I've only done flatbed but someday I'd possibly like to try other things. I really enjoy it, though.

I was an OO (owner operator) twice, didn't learn the first time, sure did the second time!. First time as an OO is when I did the flatbed work, some lumber then smashed car bodies for Schnitzer Steel. Also cased wine (1200 cases on a 45 footer) tied down with V boards and only ropes! That I didn't like! Same outfit had me pulling dry vans with booze and wine south and anything they could back haul north.
DID NOT like transit mixers concrete people can be kinda grumpy and the driver is always stuck between the guys at the job site and the Batchman that put the mud in your mixer.
I liked plowing snow for the DOT operating heavy equipment was fun, sand truck, push plow, 10 wheeler dump, got to use a shovel also during the 90-120 day season. I've driven 5x2's, 10 spds, 7spds, 9spds, 16 spd 4x4s, 5x4, 4x4 and my favorite was the old a 9513 13 spd Road Ranger, the hi-lo range and splitter were all on the same knob, you didn't have to flip lever then use yer splitter button.
I liked ag, although it didn't pay that well and the hours were long, but seeing the little towns from the north Sacto Valley to the Southern San Joaquin Valley was enjoyable, I like history and like I said some place I went I never knew were on the map! Tomatoes were a drop and hook operation, wheat, safflower, corn and paddy rice were done with CA "pinch bottom hopper doubles" which were developed in Woodland CA.
While the long liners were bit*hing about their "Hours of Operation" we just laughed cuz while they were on ICC/DOT 70 hr rules we were on CA State AG haulers rules, from field to first point of processing ...110 hrs per 7 day week! One season the farmers panicked cuz rain was starting early, so the Yolo County sups and CHP came to an agreement they could work us 120 hrs in 7 days as long as we stayed in Yolo Cty and carried a letter with us!

Sportmans Warehouse now has sign on the Stewart Street door that they OPEN the Carson Street Door first on "Ammo Fridays", for our safety, whatever that means.

Picked up some Pyrodex P, lubed wads, bore butter there. NO .454 lead balls there of any kind, Also got some #10 caps, they have quite a large selection of Caps right now.

Ran up to Reno Sportsman's Warehouse for .454 lead balls, none there either so went to Cabelas and they had 2 boxes left, I bought one box, $2 more than the SWH shelf price.

Everybody must be buying 44 cal BP firearms cuz that is the empty spot on the shelves, kinda like 22 ammo.

I guess you go out to end of Johnson Lane for your "range time"? Been meaning to try it, never been out there in all these years, usually use the range in Carson, get there early to get a shotgun bay. Also used to shoot up in Hope Valley at Picketts Junction, go a mile back on Burnside Lake Road, second cattle guard, there is and old log deck up on the left.....well there used to be anyway.

I'm up in SLT, Harold is on the Hospital Board up here, which is right outside my back door a couple hundred yards.
