Just bought a .45LC conversion from http://www.oldsouthfirearms.com/ Type in 45p in the search field to bring up the correct conversion cylinders.

Cheaper than Howell's website and free shipping too.

I didn't know they made them in 45ACP! That'll save me from adding a 26th caliber to my hoard :-)

Got mine too. Pretty with what looks like nice walnut grips :-)

I didn't order the cylinder since I have an Uberti 1858 Carbine on the way from GB and may only order one for that.

Did either of you notice if one of the nipples is different from the other 5? I have one that looks like it has a red insert in it, the diameter is smaller than the other 5 nipples. Also noted discoloration or residue in the bottom of two chambers, the other 4 are still blued. Small amount of discoloration on the top inside of the frame where the hammer would be hitting the cap. Have you tried the loading lever? Mine is difficult to lineup unless you get it juuuuust right, looks like a really slow process to load using the attached loading lever.

You may have received a return. My nipples are all the same (snicker) and everything appears evenly blued - no residue or wear anywhere.

Sounds like the way to go, but the cylinders are more expensive than the guns!

Turns out the red stuff is something left over from assembly I guess, that nipple was totally plugged. So I punched through it with a nipple pick and blew it out, it's the same as the other 5 nipples now. I also airgunned the chambers and they are all clean and blued. The loading lever plunger is still difficult to lineup if you are in a hurry though. the residue on the inside fo the frame was probably from the cap during test firing, cleaned that off with some BP bore cleaner. I think I'm GTG now. Blew a lot of oil out of all the nooks and crannys too.

Also just heard from Cabela's they said all "sales final", contact Pietta if you have issues!

Maybe some suggestions from you experienced BP shooters regarding:

Powder and charges ( How many shots do you get out of a pound of BP?)
                          Pellets?
Bullets, I read these use .454 ball bullets
Percussion caps, I happen to have a couple containers of #11 caps will these work ok?
                          Cappers?
Powder flasks (wouldn't need if using the pellets)
Saw some discussion about changing the nipples
                          Cleaning suggestions
                          Any "needed' accessories?

I'll be at the Sportsmans Warehouse in Carson City tomorrow morning so I'll be looking to see what they have. May even get up to Reno, that's not decided yet though.

( Maybe I should take some spare 22lr ammo to sell in the parking lot to fund my new venture)

                          1. No clue how many shots you get from a lb. depends on your charge. I bought a set of measuring tips and found what the gun shot best.

2 never used pellets in a revolver only in a inline with 209 primers.

                          3. yep I use .454. you want a small ring of lead shaved off for a good seal.

                          4. I think the 10 caps fit better for me but find what fits on the nipple nice and tight. sucks when they fall off and jam the action. 11 will work fine if they stay on some people bend them for a better fit I have not had much success with that.

                          5. Tried a few cappers the gave up and just use my fingers. I am never in a hurry loading these.

                          6. I use a flask with the screw on measure. works good and gun will need cleaning before I run out of powder.

                          7. Never needed to change the nipples but I do pull and clean them.

8.soap and water to clean. I have used some cabalas cleaner and it works well.

                          9. I recommend a way to remove a loaded ball either screw type or co2.

This is just my experience others may vary and use at your own risk. I do not lube or seal the chambers. no wads. never had a chainfire but if the balls ring when set it is good to go. recommend a loading stand you can buy or make to hold the gun when loading. Let me get a pic of my box I use for you all. I use pyrodex but be sure to clean well as I have been told it is very corrosive.

sorry my BP stuff is packed already as I am moving in the next couple weeks. I just bought a large plastic pistol case and use the top area to hold the guns. I cut in a plastic divider box into the bottom to hold all my goodies. I have a section for caps, balls and tools. my flask fits there also. it works well and is easy to just grab and go. the best part is when shooting I just close the box and don't worry about sparks getting near the powder.

Kind of random, but could somebody with a revolver loading stand please post all the dimensions? I'd really like to make my own with some leftover wood I have lying around out back.
