I think the Brass frames were on sale awhile back at $199.99 or something like that, Cabelas Reno only had 1 steel framed 8" model one sitting around for awhile. The Sheriff 5.5" bbl model have nowhere to be seen for many months in Reno. Guess the container ship finally got in from Italy!!!

Sportsmans Warehouse seems cheaper on supplies than Cabela's Reno.

True on Sportsman Warehouse, it is usually cheaper then Cabela's. I have one in town and it always has Pyrodex, 777 and Black MZ in stock, much cheaper then Cabela's and no haz mat fees.
As far as brass frame, I prefer steel framed ones, if nothing else, then for my peace of mind.
Last week Cabela's had engraved 1858 with extra cylinder on sale for $230. I am still waiting for them to ship it. Last couple BP guns I bought from Cabela's were shipped from mid-West, so if Reno does not have it in stock, you still get them.

Sportsmans Warehouse is over the hill in Carson City so easy access for me.

Been traveling so missed the sale on the Engraved M1858. I agree on the brass frames, they are pretty but don't hold up with a lot of use, so I'm told.

I'm assuming mine will ship from the warehouse, same as the 22lr ammo I ordered, both to be delivered 6-30.

The brass frames can handle a lot of use but only if you keep the loads on the mild side. For a first one definitely get steel - it's one less thing to worry about and you can get a cartridge conversion if you're so inclined.

            Anyway, that's a good price.

Don't know how long they'll be on sale, sometimes only a few days. This is the best price since before last Christmas and I doubt they'll get much below this price, that's why I didn't hesitate.

I got one of those several years ago. I believe mine is brass frame but I bought it on sale for 125.00 and used 20.00 off 100.00 or more. Good shooter and fun. Doubt I will ever shoot it enough to wear out the brass. A little surprised how much prices have increased. I agree to wait for the sale the best sales are usually around Christmas time.

How do y'all feel about the pistol w/ starter kit? http://www.cabelas.com/catalog/produ...oductId=731907
The discount doesn't seem as steep but I figure I'd need all this stuff as a newbie to BP.

I'm kind of interested to see how far they drop the price for the Holidays. I'm still ok with this one though.

Same here. I did not want to wait for the Holidays. Plus, I happen to have a Cabelas gift certificate I have used for some black powder supplies.

This should be inexpensive fun. A can of black powder can last a long time, and it turns out I already have some. Also, it is not like we will be able fire of 30 rounds a minute, but the routine is part what makes black powder fun. I have had more fun over the years with two inexpensive muzzle loader rifles than my C&R rifles.

The gun is fine, but personally, I am not a fan of Cabela's starter kits, I think it is overpriced for what you get. Between eBay, Sportsman Warehouse and Track of the Wolf http://www.trackofthewolf.com/ you can assemble a better kit then Cabela's.
Last month I bought two flasks on eBay, one Remington style with a dog and birds for $23 and second flask, Peace & Friendship style with nipple wrench, short ramrod and some lead round balls and a nice possibles bag for $27. All you need is just some patience and you'll find good deals.
Sportsman Warehouse prices are significantly better then Cabela's.
Track of the Wolf is simply one of the best places to buy BP stuff, some hard to find elsewhere, good prices and great service. Their catalog is a must for all kind of period items.
