Funny I advertized two very nice Hakim rifles here this year and didn't get one bit of interest so I shipped them out of state. Hated to do that.

I saw yours, but I already had one (and a nice one, at that). I was considering them though, even though I already had one. C&Rs can have that effect on people, since it's not like they'll be making more of them.

Hakims have a loyal following, but they're not popular with everyone.

Wrong. They started their life as scrap metal of somewhat acceptable (for a receiver) shape, that was welded into receivers.

The point is, per ATF, a fullauto receiver cannot be made into a semiauto one, they'll still consider it an FA receiver. You have to turn it into scrap metal (as in non-firearm) first.

Yep, there was a 54 Izhevsk SKS on the CGN marketplace that he tried to get, looks like he was too late though

Yes izzy as we SKS collectors like to call is an Izhevsk factory made SKS. Those were only made in a production for a few years and are a collectors gem. Even if its a refurb that price was good enough.

As for the Hakim finger eating monster, if you forget to switch the safety on and mess around with the receiver...snap! They actually call it "Hakim Thumb" sort of a knock off from the Garand Thumb.

Hakims actually have manufacturing dates on them, in Arabic. They're sometimes worn out (Egyptians pretty much scratched them on the gun rather than stamping them), but you can still get the approximate date of manufacture from the serial number - there was a few informal serial number surveys, so you can still determine the manufacturing date to within a couple of years.

What could happen here is that either Samco people didn't bother to check for the date of manufacture (you have to translate it from Arabic, but there's a plenty of sources for that. For that matter, you can just compare the numbers to those on the read sight - it's graduated from 1 to 10, and yes, Arabs do use the decimal system. We got it from them), or get it from the serial number, and just checked that Hakim was manufactured past 1962. Which would correspond with the typical half-assed research effort a gun store usually puts in. It's also possible that either the Hakim they slated for Sksser45 was made after 1962, and they didn't want to bother to assign another one to him, or all of their Hakims were made after 1962. I'm curious to see the promised letter.

Either that, or you're right on the money, and someone decided to call Hakim's muzzle brake a flash hider.

The dates of manufacture were not "scratched" into the Hakim's receiver they were deeply stamped and usually always legible. The dates appear above the serial numbers. You can not "date" a Hakim based on it's serial number as not every year was sequentially dated..
