    Walther P1

    Hi Guys,

    I have recently started collecting military surplus guns, have been looking at Walther P1 on Classic arms website for a week

    Is this pistol a collector item or its just not worth it? If its WWII one will have bought it with out even thinking, but this is post WWII.

    Please let me know your opinion.

    Thanks

    The P1 is a great design and fun to shoot. Get one with the hex cross pin and shoot it a lot. You'll love it.

      Check w/your local Turners, they still show several listed on their discontinued gun list at reasonable prices.

          In general terms:
          P1's = shooter
          p38's = collectors

          If you want a shooter get a P1 Turners had them for $269 for calgunners only awhile back. IF you want a collector get a P38 go for $550 and up up up

          IF you decide on a P1 correct get one with the hex pin but also get one with the beefer slide. You can tell this by the serrations in front of the safety not just behind it.

            Definitely surplus guns at Turners, but all in all great condition. The excellent grade looked unissued for sure and even the VG grade were in top shape. The majority were the later ones w/the hex nut and beefier slides w/forward serrations.

              The ones Turners had are unissued.

                thanks
                That is a post war shooter.

                Century has some P-38's that would be classified as Collectors. Right now they are only listing them as coming soon so you would have to call and see what they say.
                Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

                  SOG has some Nazi marked p-38s as well. They are listed as:

                    If you can, compare the feel of a P1 to a P38. The P1, with it's alloy frame, is much lighter than a P38 and feels top heavy. After comparing both, I much preferred the solid feel of the P38.

                    If you're looking for a WWII collector, then you want the P38. I got mine off of Calguns.

                      The P1 has a snappier recoil feel than the steel P38. I found the P1 bit unpleasant to shoot.

                        I thought P1s in general had the beefier slide. They only added the hex pin because of the frame cracking issues with 9x19 NATO rounds which were loaded hotter than traditional 9x19.

                          Syntax - nope, they did the slide upgrade in the mid to late 70's.

                            I love mine shoots a lot like a berretta 92fs/m9 for obvious reasons. I think any Glock lover would argue with you about the weight of an alloy frame being glocks are top heavy too. It doesn't bother me one bit.
