      Update:

Finished 120 grit of the stock, next 200 grit, then 400 grit. I want this puppy ultra smooth.

Looks like I'm going with a Sweetleaf Herb Grinder. I'm going to check out smoke shops for the right model.

Are you going to wet-sand the lacquer finish?

          Yes?
I'm not sure how to get the best finish.
Soon I will be getting some wood, primer lacquer, black lacquer, red lacquer and gold lacquer. I'm going to practice my technique first.

I like the Folk Art "camo" idea. It reminds me of my grandmother's kitchen.

Not that she owned any Mosins I am aware of...but you know what I mean.

              "Russian folk art Mosin"

Makes me think of Matryshka dolls (nesting dolls)....how about an M91, and inside that, a 91/30, inside that, an M28, inside that, an M38, and inside that, a .22 Mosin trainer.

Yes. That is the best way to get a glossy flawless finish free of streaks from brushes and orange peel from spray. Use anywhere from 1000-3500 grit paper and work up like you did prepping the surface. Just depends on if you want to see yourself in the finish, or leave it rustic.

I can't wait to see what this project turns into... What it really needs now is a Datamancer 10-round magazine

Is there some way to adapt an SVT 40 magazine?

Not sure about SVT-40 mags. At $200 a pop though, it might be a bit cost-prohibitive. PSL mags don't really work either.

There's a Repro SVT 40 Mag up on Gunbroker for about $70 Buyout right now.
