Made in 1942, with a record production of 105,207 made that year.
Might mention here, that Model 12's made during the war may have been used by the USAAF to teach bomber gunners on the trap range, how to lead their targets. Good idea to take a good close look for the flaming bomb proof.

Wow using some link I found online put it as a 1946..

It has WP proofs on the top of barrel and receiver. No flaming bomb or US that I have seen unless it was severely buffed off.

Pretty sure it was commercial as it is marked FULL and probably had a 30 inch barrel, which someone cut to 26 and choked. The stock end is flush, no curve and the hole patterns do not line up to any buttplate I have found. It seems that it might be the size of a small Winchester red pad. It has a white line Pachmayr branded for a store in Tulsa, OK if I remember correct. I am guessing either the store had them ordered that way or the store later replaced a Winchester "Red" pad.

All that together and I think it was a commercial shotgun.

I need to rewrite that page in my bound book because of another small mistake I wrote. So should I write it as 1942 now given your info?

I know its a sin to chop more but the choke threading and chop isn't holding up very well. The barrel is very thin and I can see and feel the threading pushing out on the outside of the barrel. Also on one side the end of the barrel is so thin theres a sliver that flaked away. I'm going to have it professionally chopped to 20 or 18.5. I know 20 or 20 5/8th is more proper because the trench guns where that length.

But I am really leaning towards 18.5. What do you think?

              *Flame suit on!* hah

              Thanks again for your information!

                Absolutely!
Chaos, With some of these Winchesters being so far off from the Madis data, (4yrs on yours) I kinda wish I had kept track of it when I started this thread. Bert has done a comparison on the 1894's between what Madis "had", and the polishing room records "are". Some really big differences there! I'll try to get a copy and add it to the the original post.
Your barrel, if it was mine, being any collector value is gone, and everybody has a sawed off Model 12 , I would send it to Jess Briley and see how much of the barrel they can salvage by installing their thin wall choke tubes.
Briley does the best work, and perform a lot of miracle on hopeless cases. They'll let you know up front what they can do, and what it'll cost you, and they have always exceeded my expectations. Comparing their tubes and the factory Inv+ tubes in my Brownings, is like comparing a Lepers scope to a Zeiss.

Earlier research put the date in 1926. Family story is this
Weapon used on fishing boat off ca coast..used to sho ot
Sharks chasing bait..hence the need for nickel steel..worked too
No pitting, and has nice finish of a 93 yo gun..
                        Thanks again
