    S&W M&P acquisition

I stumbled across this gun in another forum, and decided to buy it because:

    A) It was cheap
    B) The pearl handles caught my eye
    C) I've always wanted to take apart a S&W to see how things work
    D) I could have it delivered straight to my house with my C&R (I'm not in CA)

    and......

    E) It's a pimp gun!!!!

The exterior is rough but mostly just discolored with some pitting here and there. The bore was dirty but cleaned up to be nice and shiny. Under the side plate there was considerable hard dirt/grime as well as some surface rust, bit that cleaned up very nicely.

The only real issue with it is that it is out of time - the cylinder requires a slight nudge to lock into place. So - the hand will need to be replaced and fitted. If any of you happen to have one laying about in your parts drawer, shoot me a line. Otherwise, it's off to GPC for a replacement.

Always looking for vintage Winchester and Marlin lever action rifles. Looking to sell? Know of one for sale? Drop me a line!

Yes - they are genuine, too, not synthetic simulated.

What a cool catch. I would rather buy a gun like that than any 3 new models!
If it ain't broke, keep fixin' it 'til it is...

            OP,

Are you aware that the gun salesman in the movie, Taxi Driver, in reality, was referring to your latest purchase, not the M29 when he said this:

"It'll stop a car at a hundred yards. Put a round right through the engine block."

Those grips are kind of why I bought the gun.

About the grips - the left grip had the lower rear corner missing, but I was able to fill it in and shape it to an acceptable degree (see pic).

Pretty cool find. Shouldn’t be tough to fix.

Timing is off by just a hair - maybe 1/32 or so. Just requires the slightest nudge to click into place. I ordered a hand from GPC, and I'm hoping they send me a decent one.

It might be later than yours because of the factory magna grips but the same type hammer.
I called S&W, and they said mine was made somewhere between 1920 and 1930. Looks like it, too.

                            Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.
