Yeah, stock looks like a BCD/semi-Kreigsmodel, that band is strange with the sling loop on the bottom.

Barrel band is late war (stamped).

Op you're looking @ $557 out the door with tax and DROs. On the upper end for a RU capture but the prices on these things keeps going up. Your call, personally I have 3 so i'd pass on this but sometimes when you get the C&R itch you can justify every purchase even if you overpay a tad bit.

edit: emcon I see the sling loop on the bottom now, that is strange, OP whats this front sight dilemma?

It's just looks odd to me. I thought kar98ks had the rounded sight hood but this one has a forked one. Were these original to the kar98s?

Identified as a Czech CZ-24 sight hood - costs 8 bucks.

It's a Fed Ord K98 rifle. It would be a total mismatch. ..Still a genuine German K98. Probably worth the price. It's not a Russian capture.

RC is not worth it, I would save up for a more original rifle or try the plethora of South American Mausers. $550 goes a long way if you save it up towards a fully marked original with matching #s.

So why do you think it is a RC?

Loaded the higher res pics on imagr, it does look like a Federal Ordinance, which where almost always slapped together by them. On the fence now as to what the value is.

                        It isn't a Russian Capture.

The TG2 in a triangle stamp on the sling slot in the buttstock is thought to be East German or Czech (postwar).

Somewhere a sling swivel was added to the bottom of the buttstock and the lower band was rotated 90 degrees so the sling loop was on the bottom. It would have to be reshaped (deformed) to fit like that.

The upper band has a hole drilled in the right side.

So kh737, it is kinda "odd" but the price isn't unreasonable. If $480 is a lot of of money for you and you want a more typical or normal K98k I would pass and save that $480 and a few hundred more dollars and get a more standard K98k, for example http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...Item=542292980
                        Revolvers are not pistols

pistol nouna handgun whose chamber is integral with the barrel
Calling a revolver a "pistol" is like calling a magazine a "clip", calling a shotgun a rifle, or a calling a man a woman.

As a college student who loves history it is a lot of money for me but I would also like a shooter rifle. I think this maybe be fine for what I'm looking for because it does still have the waffen Amps so I think that's really cool and I'd love to shoot it.

Here is a Fed Ord flier from 1989... They obtained many many K-98's as well as other Mauser rifles from Israel... All were captured in the wars with the various Arab countries...

                                I think it's a good deal for a real K98K.
