a couple observations from your analogy-

-a Yugo SKS doesn't equate to the body from which a GTO is made. maybe more like a 1980 Chevy Cavalier.

-for the sake of argument, let that comparison stand. to preserve it in "unfired" condition would mean keeping it in the garage where nobody can see it.

what should happen is you take it out for a spin every once in while, on Sunday.

    same with the SKS.

I agree with you except for possibly the comparison to a Cavalier :-) As I said in a much earlier post, I've decided to shoot it but keep it in original condition and keep the round count low.

It's a SKS, They're not worth much to begin with. If you don't shoot it, then there's no point in owning it. THey're going for around 400 on gunbroker, that's hardly anything to save it for. If it was 5 years ago you wouldn't even get 100 for it.

Nobody was questioning his collection weather he has these guns or not. But the statement of some of them being worth 30 times more then any sks is simply sarcastic. So when you go out on a limb with statements like that you might want to be ready to back them up. The 30 was probably just a typing error IDK.

I'm sure it's been test fired although I can't even find signs of that.

I'm not sure how many are around in this condition, so my dilemma is, should I treat it like all my other firearms and shoot it or buy a shooter and put this one away. What would you guys do?
            Shoot it...

Maybe just use ammo you know is non-corrosive...

Shoot it. We have a ssa colt that has been in our family for over 100 years that still gets shot every now and then

It's not gold.... Increase in value might double in the next 15 years.

                Shoot the thing!

SKS are shooters. If you're thinking of selling it due to it's pristine appearance, then it should be ultra brand new, no scuffs or dings, otherwise,

shoot it and enjoy it! Stay away from the corrosive. Or shoot it occasionally and enjoy its history.

If the stock is something you want to preserve, which may take the most abuse from bumps and bruises, then put it in another stock. The only reason I changed my stock was due to cracks and splintering (not the Yugo, it was an Albanian).

Edit: Did you get a chance to shoot it? Remember to adjust the gas/grenade knob or you'll be shooting a bolt action!

Yes of course such firearms exist, and I'm sure some Calguns members own high end $30K+ firearms. To own a whole bunch of them and casually shoot them is another story.
