If you are not going to shoot out it in a trophy case. I just departed a super clean Yugo sks and it loved to be fondled and caressed.

SKS is a mudder, made for abuse and lots of rounds through them. Also, we are not talking a Garand Sniper or something rare and super desirable like that, Yugo SKS are pretty common, heck my local Big 5 used to sell them. Post your range report once you have shot it.

I agree with everyone, the gun was made to be shot. Since it isn't rare or anything, you might as well get some enjoyment with a few range trips. If you take care of it, it will still look and work great in 10-20 years.

Do those guys shoot acid bullets and perform a tactical toss of the rifle down range on empty?

What good is a gun you are not going to use?

Definitely shoot it. The 59/66 is the softest shooting variant of any SKS. Perfect range rifle for shooters of all ages.

If you can prove it's been unfired and care about value retention, don't shoot it. Other than that case, go for it.

Assuming its a 59/66 - the collector value for non-Californians went bye-bye when the grenade launcher was removed. Go ahead shoot and enjoy.

Assuming its a 59 - its been shot aplenty go ahead shoot and enjoy.

Its just a semi auto x39 They are fun to shoot but.... keep it as is. They imported a bunch in unissued condition. They were selling for 169.99, now beaters are going for $300.

C&R 101. If its truly unissued and 50 years old dont shoot it.

Do you intend to flip it many years from now for a small profit, leaving it as dead stock taking up space until then? If so I question your logic.

If not, go out and shoot it! New old stock is like buying factory new. It doesn't have a story of its own yet, it's up to you to start writing it!
So I was driving home from the range and I noticed that the scent of warm steel, burnt gunpowder and lukewarm coffee combined and smelled oddly of... Peanut butter?! Man, the Hoppe's is going to my head.

I also had a like new YUGO, i shot it and am glad i did because i sold it later and still got a good price for it. Hanger Queens are for very rare and expensive guns. SKSs are shooters.

                              Please.

Shoot it. I've got C&R Lugers, Broomhandles, Lever-guns, Trapdoors, Pythons, and Registered Magnums that supersede the value of any SKS 30 times over that I shoot.
Hate to back door your statement or the thread. But do you honestly think your shooters are worth 30 times more then any sks ?
