Given that Izhevsks and unrefurbed Tulas routinely sell for $1K, I call utter BS on your arrogant and false claim. Let's see those $30K shooters.

Since you said "any" SKS, we might as well add in North Korean and East German unicorns as well. $5K or better if you can even find one at all.

I got lucky from the CMP. They had lost my order for about a month and made it up to me with a WWII Springfield unfired since a Letterkenny rebuild. It had the light ghost gray parkerizing, electro pencil overhaul date, an excellent stock complete with orange markings. Surface on the front of boltface was perfect. This thing was rebuilt and stored. I couldn't bring myself to shoot it. It deserved to be in someones collection where it wouldn't be shot. I sold it and made about $300 over what I paid. I got a good deal the buyer got a good deal. I will admit it was the last of my 5 M1s that I sold.

I am having a hard time mustering the will to shoot my "CMP Special" HRA Garand. I realize it is a CMP built rifle and not really a historical relic, but gazing upon a Garand that is just fresh and new in every way makes it difficult to schmear it with grease and start pounding HXP surplus through it when there are lesser horses in the stable for those purposes.

I admittedly don't plan to shoot my three most pristine and collectible SKS rifles. None are super high dollar pieces, but all would be hard to improve upon or replace.

I've seen some of Gleam's collection first hand and he's posted pics intermittently in the past in rebuttal to similar taunts like yours. In any case i can vouch for that claim of his as true.

If you want something to look at, buy a painting. If you own a gun, shoot it.

shoot it . 100 rounds through it then clean it good and store it. at least you know it works, rather using it in a emergency and it wont work at all.

Fair enough. The Donald Trump of Calguns with numerous 5 figure range guns. I stand corrected and am in awe of such extravagance. The only thing better than having such wealth would be the ability to pop in to hobo soup kitchen conversations such as this one and remind everyone of it.

Bobby you need to shoot that Garand! My H&R looks brand new too and it is very accurate.

I am honeymooning right now with my new M1A, but I will get to it. I set aside three spam cans of HXP for just such purpose. The Garand will always be the big dog of C&R long guns.

Well, a few years ago, the market was flooded with unissued 59/66s that were retailing for $179 or less with accessories (and much cheaper with a C&R by the case). So, there are a lot of them out there in "pristine" condition, as you call it. They will never be anything super special. Just go enjoy it.

Shoot it or sell it, this is not a collectible.

I gave my pristine SKS to a nephew because I didn't shoot enough.

I have real collectibles which I shot and enjoyed more.

Well, many guns are valued at well over $30K. I've held more than a few that are valued at over $50K and some that are valued at more than $200K, so, why would you call BS? I'm sure there are a few people in Ca that have collections that most of us can't even imagine.

My question wasn't necessarily about future value (I don't need the money), it was more along the lines of should I keep it original and mostly unused. I'll try to explain.

Suppose you bought a 1965 Pontiac Lemans in mint condition and only had 1000 original miles on the odometer. It will never be a high dollar collectable but there aren't many like that around. Do you drive daily it or preserve it and put it away as an example of what they looked like when they came from the factory?

And FYI, I have other well used SKS rifles that I shoot frequently.
