Should I shoot it or put it away?

Up until now I've never owned any guns that I don't shoot including my C&Rs but I just acquired a Yugo SKS that's pristine. Aside from a very few small handling marks that are likely from storage, it's in great shape and I don't think it was ever issued. I'm sure it's been test fired although I can't even find signs of that.

I'm not sure how many are around in this condition, so my dilemma is, should I treat it like all my other firearms and shoot it or buy a shooter and put this one away. What would you guys do?

I personally won't own a gun I wouldn't shoot atleast once. I'm all for keeping this nice and pristine but I would shoot some amount of rounds through it. Just my opinion.

Only gun that i wouldn't shoot is one that is extremely collectible, ie something that isn't mass produced and hasn't been shot before. Other than that, in your case, if you have another sks that you can shoot, and you don't mind using precious space to put that away, then by all means, stow it away. my 2 cents.

Do whatever you want. I don't think firing it a few times is going to significantly degrade its condition.

On the other hand, don't feel that you have to shoot every firearm you own. I own many firearms and I don't think I have shot most of them yet. There are many that I will probably never shoot for various reasons.
              Revolvers are not pistols

pistol nouna handgun whose chamber is integral with the barrel
Calling a revolver a "pistol" is like calling a magazine a "clip", calling a shotgun a rifle, or a calling a man a woman.

There are many of those out there. I had 6 and now I am down to one that I shoot.

When I bought it I had every intension of shooting it. Then I had two different people that saw it tell me to put it away, like shooting it would be a sin or something.

I knew I could count on you guys to give me the right answer. I'm shooting it!

It wasn't created to be a safe queen. Not shooting it is robbing it of it's purpose in life. Blast away.

                      An SKS?

                      Please.

Shoot it. I've got C&R Lugers, Broomhandles, Lever-guns, Trapdoors, Pythons, and Registered Magnums that supersede the value of any SKS 30 times over that I shoot.

                              There were many millions made.
                              They're not expensive or rare.
Mine's in excellent shape, no dings dents or rust. I've been shooting it for 25 years and it still looks new.
If I'd never shot it it wouldn't have increased any more in value (ain't for sale).
