I picked up a Forward Grip and Optics... all temporary until I save up for the Surefire Forward grip w/ Light and a Trijicon ACOG. The Forward Grip is a Magpul ($25) and the Optic is a NcStar Mark III 1.25-4x32 Mil Dot scope w/ illuminated reticles ($120) with a lifetime warranty. I went out to the desert a few days ago and was very happy with the scope. It heald zero and was pretty accurate... not bad to hold me over until I can pick up the ACOG.

Almost done. However, if you are anything like me you'll find you are NEVER done. There is always something different to try out.

Forgive the unsolicited advice. You have a great rifle there, but it looks to be missing a really important part. Rear sights on rifles running red dots offer a lot of advantages.

1) They make it much easier to sight the rifle in. At 25 yards irons will at the very least be on the paper. This is not necessarily so with optics like red dots or scopes making them much harder to sight in. So if you sight in with your irons first, you can then adjust the red dot until it lines up perfectly with your irons and you're sighted in. One or two more 3 round groups will get it fine tuned and you are done. This process usually requires half the amount of ammo you would need if trying to sight in a red dot or similar type of optic on its own (unless you get really lucky).

2) They are a critical backup to an electronic device prone to failure. EoTechs and Aimpoints can and do fail. Experienced it myself with a very expensive Aimpoint. When that happens you will really regret not having a backup iron sight.

3) They ensure you never loose the ability to use irons. If they are on the rifle, odds are you will practice with them. Or at least you should. That way if you pick up somebody else's rifle that only has irons you will still know what you are doing and won't be crippled by the lack of a red dot sight.

There are lots of options out there. Some are fixed, some are flip-up, both work great. My favorite are made by Troy Industries, but they pricey and out of a lot of people's budget. Midwest Industries makes a really nice inexpensive sight (comparatively speaking). I am not a huge fan of Magpul MBUS sights, only because the plastic base has a high likelihood of breaking off if you take it on and off the rifle. If you go with the Magpul option put it on the rifle once, and leave it where it is. If you try and take if off odds are it is going to break on you. Once on, and left in place it is pretty sturdy. However, some people have broken them simply by tightening down the screw too far. The plastic aperture for the MBUS is not uniform either, making it harder to be accurate with them. Hence my preference for metal sights which can be machined much more precisely and are much stronger.

In any case, you have a great rifle. Looks like a lot of fun.

Yes true thats the only thing i have been meaning to pick up but just havent gotten around to it, speaking of such thank you for reminding me i get my vacation pay next week imma go and get a rear sight.

Nice! That's possibly my next build. Only thing i'm worried about is the effective range of a .223 as a long rifle. I'm thinking of going the .308 AR 10 route instead.
