    M1a, do I sell it?

I already own a M1a Scout with the Springfield 4-14x56 range finding scope. I haven't done much distance shooting with it past 100yrds. That scope is confusing!
The point to my thread is this. A buddy is offering to sell me his DPMS LR308. He says he built it and it's never been fired. New baby on the way is forcing the sale.
Do I need both? Does the AR platform out perform the M1a? My scout is heavy, probably melt it down and make 2 honda civics out of it. How's the DPMS compare in weight? Recoil?
How reliable is the DPMS? Are they dirt, carbon and dust sensitive? I believe my M1a can run after being dipped in wet cement.
I'd hate to sell mine, hate to pass up this deal too. Is there a niche the DPMS fills that the M1a doesn't?
    Thanks guys.

Keep the M1A and save up enough money to build your own AR-308.

You can build one for cheaper than the cost of the m1a. Keep it. And build away.

Really? He said he built this for $1700. Offering it for $1200. I thought it sounded pretty good, maybe I should do some homework.

I think 1200 is a good price. I'd go for it. It looks like it has a lot of nice parts. That EBR stock is not cheap.

I don't think I'd get hurt on it if I decided to sell later.

I'm actually going through the same thing. I just (tonight) ordered a JP LRP-07, justifying the purchase by thinking I would or could sell my SA SOCOM M1A. But every time I sell something I wish I hadn't.

Those M1A are, IMHO, so robust & reliable as all get out. Their action and mechanism so solid. Plus I really like it. Plus mine's featureless, which is very cool. I think I just answered my question, Good luck whatever you do.

ETA; Great deals - or builds are always available. And if you build it, you would likely buy parts intermittently over a period of time, easing the cash outlay *pain*. If you sold your M1A, that's it...no going back. Plus you could put the glass on the AR if you build one later.

Dont sell it man. Later om when money is not as tight grab a receiver and complete as money permits, then a barrel, bcg, handguard, optic etc. I dont think this particular ar10 is something so nice its worth selling the m1a, and trust me I am moee of an ar10 fan than an m1a fan to tell you the truth. Lately I have seen some good prices for dpms 308 style receivers, bcgs amd barrels and you can spend a few hundred here or there. Put aside 2 or 300 a month ya know? Just my .02$

It'll just be another AR at the range man. M1A's have character.

Keep it. I have many friends who have later regretted selling any of their guns.
