Sell the scout and get an M1A (loaded >) with the barrel length it was designed for, then work on acquiring whatever you think you need next.

      M1a, do I sell it?

You've talked me into keeping the m1a. I'd regret selling it as soon as it left.
Still on the fence with the DPMS though.
I guess comparing to two is like comparing a M38a1 Jeep from Vietnam to a new fully loaded Jeep you see at your local grocery store. Both are 4wd, both are Jeeps, both get you off the pavement. Just one has less bells and whistles and one has more options. One is battle proven and one isn't.
      Thanks for the input.

            Outstanding!

IMHO, the M14/M1A with an 18" barrel is best for all around, general purpose use.

IMO, M1A > DPMS AR every time

I have to agree with most of the people on this thread. Keep the M1A.
They're great shooters, handle well, and they come with best set of iron sights I have used.
I sold mine a few years ago and I regret it to this day.

LR308's can be steaming piles of crap, especially the cheap ones... And icing on the cake is your pal says it's never been fired.

You can count on your M1A to function. I wouldn't put the same faith in an LR308 that someone was willing to sell for $1200 though.

Owning both wouldn't be bad, but if you're going to do the AR platform, get a real AR...Armalite. Don't waste your $ on a copy.

I would have a hard time selling the M1A. But your friends rifle is a good deal. He did put some money into it. Let us know what you decide. Good luck OP! Tough one lol

I think you should take both guns to the range and do a side by side comparison. Then decide. Sounds like $1,200 is a deal you will not lose money on, other than DROS and buying and selling inconvenience. Looks like fun.

I think you should take both to the range, do a side by side and keep both.

                                AR scoped, M1A with irons.

You would immediately regret selling it.
